The Dark Knight Rises Adds Matthew Modine, Two More

Big week for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”. There was that official announcement of the start of production, then Tom Hardy as Bane was revealed.

Before the week’s out, Variety reports that Nolan has added three names to the cast, including Matthew Modine, who once played Private Joker in “Full Metal Jacket”. So yes, you can say Joker is back in Batman’s life, but that would be a cheap play on words, and I’m above that. Mostly.

Modine is playing a character named “Nixon”, but that’s pretty much all we know.

The other two new castmembers are Tom Conti (“The Tempest ) and 11-year-old actress Joey King, who was last seen in “Battle: Los Angeles” and “Ramona and Beezus”. Both pictured below. (Conti, er, is on the left.)

The newcomers join a cast that includes Christian Bale, back as Batman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata and Nestor Carbonell.

Nolan and his last Bat rises July 20, 2012.
