Find out how the world ends (or end-ish) in a minute-long animated clip from Joon-ho Bong’s “Snowpiercer”. Or at least, how much effort it took to board that train that’s at the center of the new sci-fi film.
In a word: lots.
The clip is narrated by Ah-sung Ko, whose 17-year old character Yona is born on the train. So yes, apparently that train has been going ’round and ’round the doomed planet for a while now. I’m not sure if they’ll be more of these clips, perhaps featuring short prequels for the other characters, including Chris Evans’ rebel leader. We shall see.
Set in a future where a failed experiment to stop global warming creates an ice age that kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train, but a revolution brews.
The film co-stars Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Kang-ho Song and Tilda Swinton.
Piercing the snow later this year.
