“Red Hill” director Patrick Hughes continues to pulverize his way through Hollywood’s action movies. After nabbing directing work on Sylvester Stallone’s third “Expendables” movie, the Aussie is now set to direct a remake of Gareth Evans’ “The Raid” for Screen Gems.
Now before you get all bent out of shape about the remake, keep in mind that Gareth Evans, who wrote/directed the original movie (and its upcoming sequel), is a producer on this thing, which means he made a lot of money selling the remake rights. You’re not going to begrudge the man for making some cash off a remake of his own movie, are you? Well, are you?
Anyways, the remake is expected to follow the storyline of the original, with a SWAT team attacking a tenement building overrun with criminals. Literally. There is, I think, one nice, non-criminal family in the entire building if I recall correctly. Crazy, bloodletting shenanigans ensue.
Hughes will direct from a script by Brad Inglesby (“Out of the Furnace”), with production set to begin sometime this Fall.
The original starred Iko Uwais, and blew minds for its insane action choreography where just about anything goes. Here’s a taste of the craziness Hughes may or may not be able to duplicate:
