Mortal Kombat Legacy

Get over here and check out this new, rather expensive looking production for director Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy II”, his sequel to “Mortal Kombat: Legacy”. I’m still not sure if this is supposed to lead into a big-screen reboot of the franchise with Tancharoen directing, but it sure looks like he’s gotten a pretty sizable budget courtesy of Warner Bros. to shoot what is going to be just a web series.

If you’re a fan of the games, I don’t see how you can NOT be excited for this. I used to play the games when I was a young’un, though I’m one of those guys who can’t do a combo to save his life. “Mortal Kombat” was always too reflex-heavy for me, I’m more of a Pac-Man and Galaga guy. Yeah, lame, I know.

Anyhoo. Check out the rather epic looking trailer for Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy II”, starring Harry Shum, Jr. as Kuai Liang, Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Brian Tee as Liu Kang, Mark Dacascos as Kung Lao, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, and Cary Tagawa, who played Shang Tsung in the original “Mortal Kombat” movie, reprising the role here.

The kombat begins this September 26th.

Cannot wait!! Both of Tancharoen’s MK projects have been very well done. Say what you will about his changing up of the story, he’s breathing new life into this franchise as a possible film the way teh reboot of the game did for the game franchise. I would like these to be referenced in the MK film if only with flashbacks or durring the opening credits. Imagine the opening credits playing over the best scenes from these shorts edited together as character bios almost. Bring it on!!
