The First Trailer For Soderberg’s Contagion Drops

Oh how I love a good global pandemic movie. Films like “Outbreak” just bring a smile to my face for some reason. I’m not going to delve into that aspect of my personality too deeply, I might not like what I find. Needless to say, I’ve been eagerly anticipating Steven Soderberg’s next film, “Contagion”. Not only is it about a worldwide epidemic, it has a hell of a fancy-pants cast, including Matt Damon, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Lawrence Fishburne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bryan Cranston, and more. There are a lot of Oscars decorating the mantels of this cast.

Warner Bros. has now released the first official trailer for “Contagion”. Initially it looks like a reboot of “Outbreak”, but as things unfold, as the situation becomes increasingly dire, the true scale of the epidemic becomes clear, and things move to a whole new level.

Here is a synopsis:

“Contagion” follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.

“Contagion” is not just about the spread of a disease, it is about the collapse of civilization in the aftermath of a viral outbreak. In that manner the story resembles a disaster movie, and even shares some DNA with post-apocalyptic movies. I was pretty excited before this look at “Contagion”, but now, damn.

The infection spreads September 9th.
