The Game Plan Takes the Box Office

gameplan.jpgTo absolutely no one’s surprised, the Rock’s stab at kiddie comedy, “The Game Plan” took the box office in its opening weekend with $22 million. If you didn’t think this would happen, you haven’t been paying attention. In Hollywood, putting an actor known for his tough guy persona in a movie with a bunch of cute kids is gold — Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Kindergarten Cop”, Vin Diesel in “The Pacifier”, etc. While the kids and their parents flocked to see “The Game Plan”, the adults went to see Peter Berg’s “The Kingdom”, which came in second place with $17 million in its debut. Last week’s champ, “Resident Evil: Extinction” fell to third place with $8 million, while the Jessica Alba comedy “Good Luck Chuck” experiences not so good luck, finding fourth placed with $6 million in its second week of release. Meanwhile, the Western “3:10 to Yuma” rounded out the Top 5 spot with $4 million.
