The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Replaces the Gossip Girl in Soderbergh’s The Side Effects

Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) Movie ImageI guess when one of its money people reportedly balked at the prospect of fronting the dough to make a movie starring the girl from “Gossip Girl”, the folks behind Steven Soderbergh’s “The Side Effects” listened. As a result, instead of Blake Lively, who was rumored to be attached to the role for months now, the female lead in “Effects” has instead gone to “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s” Rooney Mara.

Who says pitching a tantrum in Hollywood doesn’t work?

Mara joins Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the film, in which Mara will play “Emily Hawkins, a sexy but unsettled young woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison. Her husband has been in prison for three years and after taking a new medicine she was prescribed, she unknowingly murders her husband and stands trial for murder.”

Soderbergh is directing from a script by Scott Z. Burns.

Sorry, Blake Lively…
