The Greatest American Hero Movie Starts Filming in July!
The Greatest American Hero (2009) Movie — By Nix on February 1, 2008
All I can say is, “Wow”. I remember watching this TV show starring William Katt when I was a kid. I hardly remember anything about it, except that it was about a dork who gets a suit that makes him into a superhero, only he’s really, really awful in the part. There’s also a FBI guy (played by Robert Culp) who goes around helping him. Together, they fight crime, and the superhero crashes into things. Good stuff, good stuff. And now — a movie version!
More:
In the movie version, just like on TV, Ralph Hinkley is a high-school history teacher chosen by aliens to defend humanity and wear a super-suit. But he loses the suit’s instructions and flies around crashing into things. The movie also includes cranky FBI agent Bill Maxwell, a major supporting cast member in the TV version. The movie adds a villain, Harvey Lundy, who’s another schoolteacher chosen by evil aliens to help them strip-mine the planet. Lundy and Hinkley wind up having a super-powered duel to the death. The movie also adds a love interest for Hinkley.
The film will be directed by Stephen Herek (of “The Mighty Ducks” fame) and will start shooting as soon as July, although they apparently haven’t casted the main character yet.
