The Guardians of The Galaxy … Starring Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler?

Rocket and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy Comic BookWhen Marvel made noise about a “Guardians of The Galaxy” movie a few years back, I honestly didn’t think it would actually ever happen. Frankly, I wasn’t sure how they were going to do it, but then again, I found the idea of a “Thor” movie pretty silly, too, and that one turned out to be fine.

Even now, with the film heading into production, with James Gunn attached as director and Joss Whedon as the mastermind behind the scenes, and with actors being sought for key roles, I still find the notion of a “Guardians of The Galaxy” movie somewhat … wacky.

It looks like things might get even wackier now, with this latest report courtesy of the lads over at Latino-Review that has Marvel “asking for the availability” of funnymen Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler.

What exactly does that mean? I don’t know. It could be something as innocent as a Marvel suit saying out loud, “Hey, I wonder what Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are doing right now?”, to a Marvel bigshot telling his underling suits, “Guys, find out what Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler will be doing when we start shooting ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, cause I really want to cast them in the movie.”

Point is, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are being linked to “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Feel free to use that as your jumping off point for discussion.

I can actually see Carrey doing the comic relief voice work here. He seems to have some geek in him, having played, at quick count, three comic book characters already. There was “Mask”, “Batman Forever”, and the upcoming “Kick-Ass 2″. I could definitely see Carrey being geek enough to jump at the chance to play either Rocket the space raccoon or Groot, the tree guy (pictured above). Those two are definitely going to be CGI.

Adam Sandler, on the other hand, I could do without. Especially his “voice acting”. Ugh.

Whatever happens, “Guardians of the Galaxy” from Marvel and director James Gunn is scheduled for 2014.

Please not Jim Carrey! He tends to approach these roles like he’s playing Ace Ventura again. I watched all the old Batman’s over the weekend again, everytime the riddler was on screen I wanted to tear my eyes out…nuff said!

I’d rather Carrey over Sandler. That said they’re probably looking for them for voicing Rocket Racoon, Groot, or Cosmo (psychic Russian cosmonaut dog, and great character as they all are) I’d say let him voice Cosmo. Rocket has been protrayed as having a british or australian accent so I don’t think he’d work, and Groot should be voiced by Kevin Greivoux!!!

Neither of them need to be in this movie! Stay away!!

you can put a dress on a turd and it will still be a turd. even if jim carrey is voicing it and especially if sandler is involved.

See now that’s being unfair. Carrey is VERY good with voices. The CGI version of Christmas Carol was pretty good, and he did a greta job with all the characters. I could easily see him doing a Russian accent and being great with the character.

ya maybe a lil unfair. but carrey hasnt done anything right in a minute. im sure hell be great in Kick Ass 2 but will he be great enough to also get marvel movies? maybe but i hope not cus i hate when one person does multiple hero characters in movies.
