When Marvel made noise about a “Guardians of The Galaxy” movie a few years back, I honestly didn’t think it would actually ever happen. Frankly, I wasn’t sure how they were going to do it, but then again, I found the idea of a “Thor” movie pretty silly, too, and that one turned out to be fine.
Even now, with the film heading into production, with James Gunn attached as director and Joss Whedon as the mastermind behind the scenes, and with actors being sought for key roles, I still find the notion of a “Guardians of The Galaxy” movie somewhat … wacky.
It looks like things might get even wackier now, with this latest report courtesy of the lads over at Latino-Review that has Marvel “asking for the availability” of funnymen Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler.
What exactly does that mean? I don’t know. It could be something as innocent as a Marvel suit saying out loud, “Hey, I wonder what Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are doing right now?”, to a Marvel bigshot telling his underling suits, “Guys, find out what Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler will be doing when we start shooting ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, cause I really want to cast them in the movie.”
Point is, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are being linked to “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Feel free to use that as your jumping off point for discussion.
I can actually see Carrey doing the comic relief voice work here. He seems to have some geek in him, having played, at quick count, three comic book characters already. There was “Mask”, “Batman Forever”, and the upcoming “Kick-Ass 2″. I could definitely see Carrey being geek enough to jump at the chance to play either Rocket the space raccoon or Groot, the tree guy (pictured above). Those two are definitely going to be CGI.
Adam Sandler, on the other hand, I could do without. Especially his “voice acting”. Ugh.
Whatever happens, “Guardians of the Galaxy” from Marvel and director James Gunn is scheduled for 2014.
