This news actually landed in my in-box last night, but I was too busy doing other things (like washing my clothes) to write it up. Better late than never. The last casting for Alexandre Aja’s “Piranha 3D” has Jerry O’Connell (aka That lucky bastard who somehow got Rebecca Romijn (pictured, below) to marry him) has been cast in the movie. There’s no word on what character O’Connel would play, but my guess is that it’ll be the smarmy, slightly jerkish character who isn’t the leading man, but isn’t the bad guy either, but somewhere in-between. Jerry is your average dolt like that.
Entertainment Weekly says O’Connell will join a cast that already includes Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Adam Scott, and Jessica Szohr. Shooting for the killer fish movie is set to begin Monday, May 12, in Lake Havasu, Arizona.
The film will star Shue as the Sheriff of a small-town that is also a destination for Spring Breakers. Alas, the nubile young collegiates (including Szohr) show up at the same time as some hungry, teethy piranhas. Ving Rhames will play Shue’s Deputy, and Scott is a Navy diver who shows up to help out. Dreyfuss, it is rumored, will have a cameo that will be a wink and a nod to his famous role in “Jaws”.
