“Braveheart” and “We Were Soldiers” writer/director Randall Wallace gets spiritual in the “based on a true story” film “Heaven is For Real”. Apparently it’s about a kid who almost died and went to heaven, then came back and talked to people about it. He then wrote a book. Well, his parents probably helped him, or someone else did (what is he, 3?), and now a movie is being made about it. Cute kid. He’s like a countrified version of Haley Joel Osment.
Not my cup of tea, but hey, it looks inspirational and all that good stuff. Might be a good flick for the kids and parents who think movies these days are just too darn violent and whatnot. Please to watch.
The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth … things he couldn’t possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.
Starring Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, Connor Corum, Margo Martindale and Thomas Haden Church.
Heaven is for real next year, April 16, 2014.
