Remember that scene at the end of Sofia Coppola’s magnificent 2003 lost-in-Japan movie “Lost in Translation” with Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson)? Remember that last scene, when Bob tracks Charlotte down in the Tokyo streets, and in the midst of the hustle and bustle, he grabs her and whispers something into her ear, and she replies, “Okay”? Well, someone claims they’ve been able to decipher Bob’s secret message to Charlotte, and he even put it in YouTube form for you to listen to.
Is it real? Eh, who knows. Probably not. According to Sofia Coppola, she didn’t script anything for Bob to say in the scene, and that it was up to Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson.
All I know is that a month doesn’t go by that I don’t get at least an email from a fan of the movie asking me what Bob whispered to Charlotte, and now I can point them to this page. It’s probably all fake, but hey, at least it’ll stop people from asking me.
But be warned: Whatever you imagined in your mind is probably better than what is purported to have been said here. Seriously, it’s not that groundbreaking or great. In fact, I would even recommend you don’t even listen to it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
