Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson play sisters who join forces to seduce Eric Bana in Justin Chadwick’s historical drama “The Other Boleyn Girl”. Well, not really. Yes, they play sisters, but they’re competing for the role of mistress to Eric Bana’s King Henry VIII. The drama is described as “sumptuous” and “sensual”, which brings up all kinds of imagery that probably will never come to pass. The trailer was released yesterday, and it certainly flashes a lot skin, although nothing too risque. The movie itself could be different, of course. And oh, get this, apparently Natalie Portman plays a real bitch in the movie. As for their English accents? Eh, I’ve heard better from American actors.
A sumptuous and sensual tale of intrigue, romance and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in European history, The Other Boleyn Girl tells the story of two beautiful sisters, Anne (Portman) and Mary (Johansson) Boleyn, who driven by their family’s blind ambition, compete for the love of the handsome and passionate King Henry VIII (Bana).
Starring Natalie Portman, Eric Bana, Scarlett Johansson, Tiffany Freisberg, Rue McClanahan, and directed by Justin Chadwick.
The catfight begins February 29th, 2008.
