Whoa. I was already interested in seeing what Keanu Reeves does with his directorial debut, the martial arts film “Man of Tai Chi”, but now he’s made the film even more enticing — by adding Indonesian action star Iko Uwais (of “The Raid” and before that, “Merantau” fame) to his cast.
It sounds as if Uwais will play one of the villains in the movie, a character that will fight the hero “in one of the last scenes of the film”.
“Man of Tai Chi” is set in modern day Beijing, and will co-star Reeves, who also makes his directorial debut on the film. But he wont be the main star. That role goes to Chinese actor Tiger Chen (“House of Fury”), playing a young martial artist who goes on a “spiritual journey”, but whose ridiculous kung fu skills “present him with both exciting opportunities and painful choices.”
Basically, he beats up lots of people, if this behind-the-scenes footage from the film is any indication.
The film is currently shooting on location in China. Look for “Man of Tai Chi” in 2013.
By the way, this is Tiger Chen with Keanu Reeves, in case you were curious:
