The Raid’s Joe Taslim Joins Fast and Furious 6

Joe Taslim in The Raid Redemption (2011) Movie ImageOf all the actors in Gareth Evans’ slambang actioner “The Raid”, I’m sure most of you were hoping that it was Iko Uwais that Hollywood manages to entice overseas first. Well, almost. It’s actually Uwais’ co-star Joe Taslim, who played Jaka, one of the SWAT cops in the Indonesian action movie.

Taslim has officially joined the cast of Universal’s latest “Fast and Furious” installment (the sixth if you’re keeping track at home). He will play Jah, described as “a cold-blooded killer who uses his martial arts and parkour skills to fight” the good guys played by Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, reprising their roles as ex-cop-turned-fugitive Brian O’Conner and bad-guy-turned-sorta-good-guy Dominic Toretto, respectively.

The Justin Lin sequel will also return familiar names Dwayne Johnson, apparently still chasing the boys, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez, whose character returns from the dead. They will be joined this time around by former MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano (“Haywire”) as a new member of Johnson’s fugitive retrieval team, while Luke Evans (“Immortals”) will supply the film’s foreign bad guy component.

In the latest film, Toretto and O’Conner take their crew to Europe for a (we assume, overly complicated and car-involved) heist, only to discover that Evans’ crew have already staked out the target for themselves. Complications, as they say, ensue.

The “Fast and Furious” franchise is known for their fast cars, beautiful women, and buff dudes, but for my money, it’s all about Sung Kang … aka Han, from “Tokyo Drift: Fast and Furious”.

Nice. With Taslim and Carano the producers seemingly move away from the drawn out car chase routine and more into the straight out action genre (like they did with part 5).
