If Dwayne Johnson is to be believed (and why wouldn’t you believe him? I mean, look at those muscles!), there are plans afoot for a “Fast and Furious” spin-off movie starring his law-enforcement character Luke Hobbs, who was first introduced in “Fast Five” and will continue to play a pivotal role in the lives of Dom and Brian and company in the upcoming “Fast and Furious 6” and, possibly, beyond.
When asked by Empire during a press junket for “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” about a possible stand-alone Luke Hobbs movie, Johnson reveals that yes, plans are indeed in the works for such a movie, telling the site that they might even “possibly” get something together after “Fast and Furious 6” and before “Fast and Furious 7”, though nothing’s set in stone yet.
Obviously Hobbs is a very big character now, and with the addition of “Haywire” star Gina Carano, the cops in the traditionally “bad guys rule” franchise are getting pretty interesting, too. Of course, it remains to be seen if a “Fast and Furious” movie minus all the fast and furious stuff (and Dom and Brian) can actually work…
“Fast and Furious 6”, starring Johnson, Carano, and the rest of the cast from “Fast Five”, speeds back into theaters this May 24, 2013.
