The Rock’s Faster Gets Billy Bob, New Director

Well the new director stuff is actually pretty old stuff, but I didn’t bother to report on it when it first surface because of, honestly, general laziness. In any case, just to get you up to date, George Tillman has replaced Phil Joanou as the director of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s action movie “Faster”. Plus, news is that Billy Bob Thornton has signed on as co-star on the revenge picture, which is scheduled to go into production early next year for a 2010 release.

The script by Joe and Tony Gayton has Johnson playing Driver, an ex-con out to avenge his brother’s murder. Thornton plays Cop, a veteran policeman who trails Driver as he races to settle with those responsible for the murder. Also in the mix is Killer, an egocentric hitman who’s after Driver.

That’s according to Variety. I’m guessing the characters will either get names as production nears, or they won’t have names in the movie. Either/or, I suppose.

George Tillman previously directed the rap bio pic “Notorious”, and before that the Cuba Gooding Jr. movie “Men of Honor”. Curiously, it took Tillman nine years to direct another movie after “Men of Honor”, going from “Honor” in 2000 to “Notorious” in 2009. I wonder what happened in-between?

I swear, guys, no more movies with me wearing pink tutus. Okay, two more. But that's it, I swear.

Dwayne needs to get back to action before people stop even considering him for a role.

I’m so glad the name “The Rock” is being dropped, and he’s going by Dwayne Johnson. This will make people take him more seriously as an actor, and not just a muscle head. (altough, I must say, that body is certainly impressive!!!)Being an Actress myself (just not a famous one!) I don’t normally like cross-overs from athletics to acting. They’re usually good at one, but not the other. However, the more I watch Dwayne’s movies, that better I like him. He’s has that certain something (not just the face and body, either) that makes you smile and you find yourself liking him and the movie! I hope he invests in more acting lessons, I think he could be very good. He gets better with each movie. I’d like to see him be able to pick a dramatic script that is moving, where he can show what he’s made of. Johnny Depp started out on a silly TV drama, and he is now one of the most diverse, and respected actors in Hollywood. He also had (and still does) that certain something that makes you want to watch him. Dwayne Johnson can achieve this, if he really puts his heart and soul into polishing his talents…saw “Tooth Fairy”, very cute! Dwayne is already ahead of the game by not taking himself too seriously…looking forward to “Faster” and some serious scripts!! Well done! Remember, don’t let anybody try to keep your good looks from getting that next role you really want!!…Wise words from Paul Newman!!!

I agree with you totally. I figured this out after watching the Gameplan with my friend and her daughter. Wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it’d be. Dwayne definitely has a future. He does need to do more action now though.
