The Rock’s Faster Gets Billy Bob, New Director

Well the new director stuff is actually pretty old stuff, but I didn’t bother to report on it when it first surface because of, honestly, general laziness. In any case, just to get you up to date, George Tillman has replaced Phil Joanou as the director of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s action movie “Faster”. Plus, news is that Billy Bob Thornton has signed on as co-star on the revenge picture, which is scheduled to go into production early next year for a 2010 release.

The script by Joe and Tony Gayton has Johnson playing Driver, an ex-con out to avenge his brother’s murder. Thornton plays Cop, a veteran policeman who trails Driver as he races to settle with those responsible for the murder. Also in the mix is Killer, an egocentric hitman who’s after Driver.

That’s according to Variety. I’m guessing the characters will either get names as production nears, or they won’t have names in the movie. Either/or, I suppose.

George Tillman previously directed the rap bio pic “Notorious”, and before that the Cuba Gooding Jr. movie “Men of Honor”. Curiously, it took Tillman nine years to direct another movie after “Men of Honor”, going from “Honor” in 2000 to “Notorious” in 2009. I wonder what happened in-between?

I swear, guys, no more movies with me wearing pink tutus. Okay, two more. But that's it, I swear.
