The Smiths Battle a Wild Earth in First Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth

Jaden Smith in After Earth (2013) Movie Image

This is a very interesting trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth”. It really looks like the only antagonists young Jaden Smith’s character is facing here are Mother Nature’s overgrown population, having run wild after thousands of years of human-free existence. I could be wrong, of course, and there could be alien shenanigans hiding under the brushes. After all, there was that quick, second-or-two glimpse of spaceship battles. In any case, check out your first trailer for Shyamalan and Will Smith’s “After Earth”.

For a guy who needs a hit as badly as M. Night, getting Will Smith to front your big-budget sci-fi movie has got to be some kind of a Godsend.

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

“After Earth” also stars Isabelle Fuhrman, Zoë Kravitz, and Sophie Okonedo.

The Smiths fight for survival June 7, 2013.

    Avatar according the Smith family!

Honestly, I lost faith in M. Night Shamalan years ago. I’ll pass…

I’ll probably wind up seeing it, but this trailer did nothing to raise my tepid expectations. Except for that bit where Jaden Smith becomes a flying squirrel. That was pretty funny.

        “Flying squirrel”… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

True! The trailer didn’t do anything to pick up my interest in it either.

I really hope this is good, I used to be a big Shyamalan fan.

Maybe it will find a place in my movies to watch on DVD, maybe.
