M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth” looks like it’s a two-man movie, with the two Smiths stuck on an alien planet (well, a futuristic Earth, anyway) and looking for a way out. It’s up to the kid, though, since dad looks like he’s going to be sitting this one out. Fortunately for him, his kid knows kung fu. Or karate. Or both. That guy from China taught him and everything.
Check out the first clip from Shymalan’s “After Earth”. No action, unless you count Smith totally letting his kid know it’s “do or die” time. No pressure, pops.
In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai. When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
“After Earth” also stars Isabelle Fuhrman, Zoë Kravitz, and Sophie Okonedo.
The Smiths plot their escape this June 7, 2013.
