The Spartacus TV Show is so Good, it’s Already Gotten a Second Season

No surprise there, you say. If a show is good (and sometimes even when it’s not, natch) it tends to get renewed for a second season. But, um, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” hasn’t even aired yet, but that hasn’t stopped the cable network Starz from already granting the Sam Raimi-produced show a second season green light. Now that’s commitment! In case you’ve never seen footage from the show, scroll on down for the bloody, nudity-filled red band trailer for “Spartacus”. It’s like “300″ on TV but, if you can believe it, with even more gratuitous violence and nudity.

Though the first season of “Spartacus” is subtitled “Blood and Sand”, the second season will be subtitled “Vengeance”, and land on the Starz pay network with a full 13-episode order. So even if the show doesn’t end up finding an audience, the producers and actors will be assured of, if nothing else, at least two full seasons worth of stories to tell.

“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” stars Australian newcomer Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, a Thracian turned gladiator fighting to return to his wife Sura (Erin Cummings) after being sold into slavery at a gladiatorial school. Co-starring Lucy Lawless (pictured, top left), returning somewhat to her swords and sandals roots as the seductive and manipulative Lucretia, with John Hannah of “The Mummy” fame playing her husband, who runs the school. Peter Mensah (“300″) plays Doctore, the head of the gladiatorial school.

Season one of “Spartacus” premieres on the Starz network January 22, 2010.

Yup just like “300″ and “Gladiator” had a love child. I’m down. Looks good to me. And hopefully, we’ll get to see a little more of Ms. Lawless.

I’m actually surprised it’s taken this long for someone to do a Hercules/Xena-style fantasy on a pay channel.

Whyo are you talking to? None of made comments about it other than we’re excited and would watch it. Not talking about the time period, but about the style of the show and action.

In my opinion, this show has potential but….. It’s just so over top. The sexuality and gore is over done.

      Hey Vino
Back when Gladiator’s fought, died I bet they thought there was extreme blood shed gore and maybe even sex when the Lady of the house was horney and needed some gladiator pickel shoved up into their overies. to the best of what I read about that time this was alot worse than we might imagine “HUH” you think.

Thank You and have a good day Master vino
