So, Bond 23. It may or may not be called “Skyfall”. But one thing is certain: Daniel Craig is definitely back as Bond, Javier Bardem is definitely playing the Big Bad, and Sam Mendes is definitely directing.
Now the latest news has Mendes trying to win an Oscar with Bond 23. Which is, uh, downright silly, but you never know…
This bit of news comes from a UK magazine site called Express (never heard of it), and quotes unnamed “insider” sources as saying that the upcoming Bond film “will be very different in tone as Mendes instead aims for “characterful performances” that will put his creation in the running for Oscar nominations.” To that end, Mendes is said to be in the process of “[ditching] a host of stunts and action scenes from his first Bond film”, including action scenes in India.
Yeah. This sounds like total bullocks to me, as the Brits would say. That’s like doing a sequel to “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and turning it into a children’s musical.
The Bond films are about insane action stunts, hot locations, and naked women. Maybe in-between the shooting, jumping, punching, and promiscuous sex with loose women, Bond grows a bit. That’s the formula. You don’t mess with formula 23 movies in.
So yeah, this sounds pretty unlikely to me, so take it for what it’s worth.
