The Tekken Live-Action Movie Trailer Finally Punches its Way Online

It’s not the best of qualities, but it is indeed the first trailer for the live-action “Tekken” movie from director Dwight H. Little, which has popped up online. From the trailer, the film’s lead looks like Jin Kazama, played by newcomer Jon Foo, who apparently had a role in “Universal Soldier: Regeneration”, though I don’t recall seeing him in the movie. The female lead looks like Kelly Overton, here playing Christie Monteiro. The cast also includes MMA fighter Cung Le, Luke Goss, Gary Daniels, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Ian Anthony Dale, Chiaki Kuriyama, and Tamlyn Tomita. If you’re a fan of the game, this might interest you. If not, it probably won’t.

There’s no release date yet, and I doubt if Stateside fans will get the film in theaters. It’ll probably open on the big screen in Asia and other parts of the planet, but land on DVD in the States. That’s usually how these long-gestating films turn up.

Other than the fact that they put that craptastic song over the grit of the story part of the trailer, it will at least be somewhat enjoyable I guess. I always get a little hesitant when a trailer shows a bunch of mediocre fighting when fighting its going to be the meat of the movie. It doesn’t look AS bad as the legend of chun li and seems to have a few production bucks over DOA. Maybe there will be something worth watching in this film.

I’ve played Tekken for many years. I don’t understand why thetrailer doesn’t focus on any of the actresses playing the hot female fighters. I mean that’s the reason to play the game; that’s the reason to watch the flick!

      wtf you talking about!?
Tekken is for playing with the combos. If you want to play a fighting game to look at the girls, go play DOA:/

Ah DOA, I remember when they actually had a jiggle control slider on the controls screen. AH good times good times. That movie tried the tournament route but failed and only had a lil eye candy on top of that.

Looks good to me. I’m questioning why they omitted King, Paul Phoenix, and Lei from the roster though as they are three originals. Granted around this time Lei and Phoenix are older, but King is a legacy and the title is passed on to the next generation. Definitely need a better quality video with less quick cuts, but the fighting looks better than most fighting game movies (except MK which also had real amrtial artists) and it’s an actual tournament, which is what Street Fighter did wrong. They should have simply done the tournament with the Shadowlaw thing as a subplot and followed Ken, Ryu, and Chun Li. This looks to pretty much do that but follow Jin, Christine with the Mishima Corp and Devil Gene storylines as subplots.

Funny, John Foo sounds really young, way younger than he looked in “House of Fury”. It would be sweet to get this on the big-screen in the US

Seriously what do you want from a movie based on a fighting game. the fact that they’re keeping the Tournament setting makes it at least watchable, and the fact that most of the people are actual martial artists mean the fghts should be at least entertaining. I’m personally keeping my fingers crossed.

I don’t get this sense that if someone is a martial artist, the movie will be least entertaining?
That’s ridiculous, if someone is a martial artist then it gives them more advantage to pull off more high active moves and skills.

Unless you love movies with people who don’t know martial arts and uses wire and double stunts every single time. Or plan CG.

well as far as the fight scenes go, i do capoeira and i really only wanna see it becuase Lateef Crowder is playing eddie. i wanna see if he pulled it off, (which shouldn’t be hard because he’s an actual Capoeirista. :) but i hope this movie is worth the $7.50 im gonna pay to see it. and way back up top, I TRIED to sit thru Street Fighter- chun-Li… then i saw Vega being played by a Black eyed peas member, so i walked out. LOL! That was it for me!

Yeah that was horrid. But at least this movie cast martial artists and martial arts inthusiasts. People who have SOME experience with it even if they’re not all black belts and what not. Crowder is one of my favs on the cast, and when I heard he was cast as Eddie I was like, well at least they got that right. Looks, skill, everything. Also got the wishu guy that fights Tony Jaa after Lateef in Protector as Jin, and Nathan Jones (big guy in Protector) as Kevin Marduk. So yeah this should be leaps and bounds better than Chun-Li.
