Hey, kids, check out the first trailer for director Mark Waters’s “Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters” (though it might have ditched the subtitle), the latest YA book series turned would-be Hollywood teenage franchise. You can pretty much thank Stephenie Meyer and her “Twilight” books (and the subsequent movies made from them, not to mention the gazillion or so bucks it earned) for these offerings. Who knew the fate of the world hung in the hands of so many antsy teenage girls with special powers? Good gracious me.

It actually looks pretty decent, so that’s a plus. Or at least, it sure looks about a gazillion times better than any of the 56 “Twilight” movies.

“What are friends for, indeed.”

Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir: half human/vampire, guardians of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discretely within our world. Her legacy is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi. This is her story.

Starring Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry, Danila Kozlovsky, Olga Kurylenko, Sami Gayle, and Cameron Monaghan.

The girls vamp it out in theaters next year February 14, 2014.
