The Wachowskis are Possibly Working on Another Matrix Trilogy

The Matrix Prequels

What happens when you have a string of hit movies and then your ensuing endeavors don’t do nearly as well at the box office? You go back to the well and hope for another round of acclaim. Apparently that’s what the Wachowskis are planning to do.

Although the filmmakers’ “Jupiter Ascending” could be the next “Avatar” — after all, anything is possible in that wacky world known as Hollywood — it’s no secret that the Wachowskis haven’t enjoyed the same level of success following the release of “The Matrix” trilogy. While I adored “Speed Racer,” “Cloud Atlas” was definitely a little hard to swallow. Scratch that — it was a mess. To hell with being diplomatic.

According to Latino Review, the Wachowskis are planning to put together a prequel to “The Matrix.” Although neither the directors nor Warner Bros. have confirmed these reports, the website seems to think the scripting process is already underway.

Here’s the rumor:

We’ve been told that the Wachowski’s have already started the writing process with early treatments and outlines already turned into the studio. No word if they will want to direct but my money says “Claro que Si!”… The derisive ending of the original Matrix trilogy include the bearded Architect suggesting that Neo wasn’t the first “One,” opening the story world for prequels.

Of course, this could be nothing more than another unsubstantiated internet rumor. However, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Warner Bros. wanted another round of “Matrix” movies. What do you think? Do you want to see more movies in the series?

Werent they planning for a Morpheus prequel just after the second movie came out? i’m pretty sure.

I hated Speed Racer but I still think Cloud Atlas was one of the most beautiful movies ever made. We need more original stories like that and less generic crap.

I liked Speed Racer for what it was supposed to be. A live action version of the classic cartoon. As for Cloud Atlas, they didn’t write that, it was based on a book. Great film though, very well done, as the book was always going to be hard to adapt, but they figured it out.
A prequel would be interesting but I’d really rather move forward snd see where this new world lead to.

      • Aegon the Conqueror

I know it was based on a book, but was still an awesome experience. Incredibly beautiful and funny as well.

I completely agree with you, Aegon! ‘Till this day, I can’t find the appealing on Speed Racer. And I’ve tried, really. Cloud Atlas, however, was great! I was expecting a sequel of some sort, but I guess is ok if it is unique.

      • Dedpool

Cloud Atlas does not need or warrant a sequel. It ended and it definitely needs to stay that way. But it was a fantastic film. Again I was surprised when my friend said it was being made into a film. He read the book and told me all about it, which I still have to get to reading.

        • Aegon the Conqueror

I wasn’t hoping for a sequel, but I was however hoping this gamble would pay off and Hollywood would finance more unique films like it. Alas we live in a generic unoriginal world of justin biebers, miley cyrus’, reboots and senseless sequels.

Please no prequels, bring Neo back and lets take back the Earth from the machines. I wish I could find the short story I read about 8-9 years ago where there was another faction besides the residents of Zion at War with the machines working secretly with Neo that had more advanced tech and a lot of it. At the end they took the war to machine city and won. They had these huge flying platforms called either Planks or Plates. Anyone else get a chance to read it?

    • Dedpool

Was that in the online game or something? I’d definitely like to see where the world is at this point but bring on a new “The One”

      • Teddy Tinsley

No it was a short story but it would have made a great sequel and brought closure to the Matrix saga. They could have even made a trilogy out of it if they expanded on the story.

So… you (and I quote) “adore” Speed Racer, and you think Could Atlas was a mess?

    Ok. Just checking.
