The Wolverine Trailer Finally Slashes Online (Plus an International Trailer)

Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine (2013) Movie Image

After the usual “squeezing blood from a stone” approach to movie trailer releases by the studio this week, the full trailer for James Mangold’s “The Wolverine” has finally arrive in all its full trailer glory. Was it worth the wait? You decide!

By the way, thank God the studio only had two days to pull the ol “teaser of a teaser” gag, and even then they managed to screw it up pretty badly, with Mangold himself releasing 6 seconds from the movie on Monday, only to have MTV later bragging that they were exclusively releasing the “first ever” footage (about 20 seconds) from the movie on Tuesday, apparently not aware that Mangold had released the “first ever footage” a day earlier. Oops! (See, this is what happens when you get too clever with movie trailers.)

Anyhoo, “The Wolverine” will find Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan, where we’re told that samurai steel will clash with adamantium claws as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed. Hey, that’s why they’re epic battles, am I right? Epic battles where no one changes is not really that “epic” if you ask me.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Brian Tee, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Rila Fukushima, James Fraser, Tao Okamoto, and Hal Yamanouchi.

The Canucklehead gets feral this July 26, 2013.

Updated: Added a second, International trailer for the film. It has much more build-up and is a tad better in my opinion.

Now THIS looks like a Wolverine movie!! I’m loving this!!

  • ErickKwon

Nice taste, but unless the trailer is doing a mislead, I hope the final product doesn’t spend too much time working the vulnerable angle–I don’t want what may be the make-or-break solo Wolverine franchise launcher dealing with a weakened lead, especially since we KNOW they won’t leave him mortal. And that redheaded Japanese actress looks weeeeeird, like she’s one of the Songmi’s from “Cloud Atlas” or Devin Aoki’s lost twin

Looks Awesome, it has me really excited now!

  • Ivan Mathews

Awesome trailer – like the reflections to the previous XMen films) Hope that oneday they finaly tie the two Marvel universes into one)

I can’t get my hopes up because it’s fox and because motorcycles are driving on roofs. The rest looks okay. Like the Silver Samurai cameo and I have faith in James Mangold. I just don’t have faith in Fox and their ability to lead writers down the right path. This project was marred by the fact that they got rid of Darren Aronofsky because of creative differences i.e. too dark a story and the idea of a one shot. That makes me think this is still going to be cooky and fail in the same ways as the first.

    that train scene looks awful.
also the cinematography looks weak, despite being shot in japan. hugh jackman needs to give this role. i will say it looks better than the first but not by much. yet.

      give up*

Honestly, I’m with you on this one. They should let that ridiculously bad train scene out of the film.

Not impressed with the production so far. Hope I’m wrong…

  • kraven

absolutely rocks and that shape shifting has to lead somewhere, hopefully not a dream.

  • Lazz82

I am skeptical….but this looks like a promising glimpse into something that MAY be a TRUE Wolverine film

  • W.A.S

Is it me or do his claws look like they are more in between his fingures than coming out from in between his knuckles?

  • LionHeart

Looks…somewhat interesting, but I was honestly hoping for more (Which is kind of weird, since my standards should be at an all-time low, but First Class kind of screwed that up). I’ll have to wait and see more, though. I’m not willing to play the optimist just yet is all.
