Or, to be more specific: “The Woman in Black: Angel of Death”, which happens to be the title of the upcoming sequel to the Daniel Radcliffe starrer “The Woman in Black”. James Watkins, who directed the original spookfest, doesn’t appear to be coming back for the sequel. Or at least, he’s not mentioned as returning in a press release.
The sequel, to be based on a story by original author Susan Hill, will return to the haunted mansion 40 years after the events of the first film. Screenwriter Jon Crocker will tackle the script.
The Woman in Black was set in the early 1900’s and based on the tale of a young lawyer who is ordered to travel to a remote corner of the UK, to sort out the papers of a recently deceased client. In the eerie setting of Eel Marsh House he discovers the vengeful ghost of The Woman in Black. This next instalment, The Woman in Black: Angels Of Death, will continue this story four decades later and focus on the concept of a couple and the experience they have when they encounter the haunted setting of Eel Marsh House.
All the original crew behind the first film are expected back, but again, no mention of Watkins returning to helm the sequel.
The Daniel Radcliffe film has earned $53 million in the States so far, with a pretty impressive $20 million opening weekend. It’s also apparently the highest grossing British horror film in the last 20 years.
