Theatrical Trailer for Book of Eli Brings the Pain
Book of Eli (2010) Movie, Featured, Videos — By Nix on September 25, 2009
So yup, the secret is out: Eli’s little book, that everyone wants to get their little hands on, is a copy of the Bible. I kinda figured that’s what it was. Here’s the latest, action-packed theatrical trailer for the Hughes Brother’s post-apocalyptic movie “Book of Eli”. The trailer really plays up the action, which is not necessarily a bad thing. When it comes to big-budget post-apocalyptic tales, you can go gritty and depressing like “The Road”, or you can go the ass kicking route, which seems to be the case here.
A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
Starring Mila Kunis, Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Gambon, Tom Waits, Ray Stevenson, Frances de la Tour, and directed by Albert and Allen Hughes.

I’m down. Love me some badass Denzel! But I have to wonder, is this “Book of Eli” the Bible or something else?
I GOT UR EMAIL AND I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAID AND I’M NOT AN EXPERT WHEN IT COMES TO THE BIBLE AND I’M NOT A FREAK BUT I DO REMEMBER THAT IN THE END OF TIMES THE DEVIL WILL STOP AND DESTROY ALL THE BIBLES IN THE WORLD TO STOP BELEIVERS. SO ITS A POSSIBILITY THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE PREDICTED THIS FILM AND POSSIBLE BEACUSE IT’S BEEN WRITTEN TO BE PROPHECIZE.
It doesn’t say that. In the end, the devil will run out of options after having been thrown out of the last portion of heaven. Then all he’ll have is the physical body of the anti christ. In that period, the war to end all wars will begin. His aim is to destroy humanity before it gets one last chance to ask God for forgiveness through Jesus.
thats it.
It’s the Bible. See image above.
Saw that, and saw it in the trailer. I’m really hoping that it’s just a scene in the movie with the Bible. I like the look of this but I really hope it doesn’t turn out to be a religious flick.
Doubtful if it’ll be a “religious” flick. Since the world is in a post-apocalyptic state and devoid of faith, hope, etc, I suppose something like the Bible could provide that hope. But I really doubt if this is going to be a preaching movie. I mean, the heroes goes around cutting people’s hands off with a sword, after all. The whole Bible thing is probably just a McGuffin for the action. You know Hollywood, if it was a “religious” movie it probably would never have gotten made, unless it mocked religion, then they’re all for that. And before anyone cites “The Passion of the Christ”, remember how hard it was for that movie to get made and released.
“…if it was a “religious” movie it probably would never have gotten made, unless it mocked religion, then they’re all for that.” Like Legion? LOL
I hope it’s just a mcguffin though.
I wouldn’t even call “Legion” mocking religion, although a lot of Christian types who have commented on it seems to think so. I think that’s just knee-jerk reactions; they’re so used to Hollywood bashing them that they instantly get offended by anything with a hint of negativity. I don’t even look at “Legion” as religious, just a movie with a angel-based premise. I doubt if the filmmakers (or screenwriters) were going for that.
Nor would I but like you said that’s what the Christians are saying…or at least were saying in the comments for the trailer here. I can’t wait for Legion, or “Eli” though. Both look like fun.
I’d love me some Fallout 3 brought to CGI/FX life but if this is a religious movie even in the US it will be panned, certainly by me.
YOU GUYS AND HOLLYWOOD NEED THE BIBLE TO GET IDEAS. WITHOUT IT THEY WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO ALOT OF THWE FILMS THAT ARE PRAISED. ALOT OF THE HOLLYWOOD FILMS TAKE PASSAGES OR STORIES OUT OF IT AND MAKE IT THEIR OWN. THAT’S A FACT!
I Don’t dispute that for a minute. Alot of very good stories have been inspired by ideas in the Bible. I’m just saying that I hope we don’t get this badass action flick, with a badass Denzel, just to find out he’s been carrying the bible this whole time. I mean really, only ONE copy out of the Billions and Billions sold in the US alone. COME ON!!!!!!! That’s all I’m saying.
So if I understand this correctly a guy in the post apocalypse has a copy of the book of Eli which is in fact the Bible. In order to protect this book (which somehow didn’t survive the apocalypse even though the Bible is EVERYWHERE including every hotel room) this guy takes a HUGE KNIFE and SLAUGHTERS a whole crap load of people because the book of Eli (which again was hanging around EVERYWHERE before the apocalypse) will save mankind now even though it apparently didn’t save us last time. Is that right? Do they add a new chapter to the Bible for bad-ass knives?
See the post by “THE MAN” above. I said the eaxact same thing.
LOOK AGAIN I SAY IT’S HOLLYWOOD AND THEY TWIST THINGS. I’M NOT A JESUS FREAK BUT I AM RELIGIOUS AND IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION IT’S SAID THAT THE BIBLE, THE # 1 BEST SELLER OF ALL TIME WILL BE BANNED AND DESTRYED BY THE ANTI CHRIST. 1ST CLUE OR HINT OR THEORY. SECOND A MAN WALKING AROUND WITH KNIVES KILLING PEOPLE, CHOPPING HEADS OFF IS NOT FORBIDDEN. JUST AS THE DEVIL HAS SOLDIERS SO DOES GOD IN ALL COUNTS. EXAMPLE ANGELS OR PROPHETS WHO IN FACT WILL KILL FOR GOD. 2ND THEORY. AGAIN THIS ALL STARTED WITH “DEDPOOL” ASKING A QUESTIONS WITH A RELIGIOUS THEORY. IT MIGHT NOT EVEN BE ABOUT THE BIBLE BUT MAYBE DENZEL IS A SOLDIER OF GOD? AND THE BOOK OF ELI IS A NEWLY DISCOVERED OR HIDDEN CHAPTER FROM THEBIBLE? OR JUST LIKE THE MOVIE LADY IN THE WATER. IT WAS BOOK WRITTEN IN OUR TIME THAT CHANGED OR WILL CHANGE THE WORLD? THERE WHOOO.
