Theatrical Trailer for Real Steel Punches Online

It’s the story of a washed up boxer, his precocious blond son, and their fighting robot. Wait, what? Fighting robot? Yup, fighting robot. It’s the future, after all, even though people are apparently still using iPhone-like smartphones, only with, er, fancier graphics I guess. Anyways, Hugh Jackman stars in the flick, which has put out a full-length theatrical trailer that reveals more of the story. This thing looks expensive as hell, but earlier reports of a sequel already being written seems a tad overly optimistic.

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Co-starring Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn, Olga Fonda, Dakota Goyo, Julian Gant and directed by Shawn Levy.

Going for the title October 7, 2011.

Trailer was a lot better than I thought it was gonna be.

Looks like the bastard child of “Gigantor” and “The Champ”. I’m sure coming out in the big horror movie month will help.

Looked much better than I thought. I like the relationship between the Father and Son, and I think they look like they had chemistry. I could get into this, especially with my daughter.
