There has been a rumor circulating that Ron Perlman may co-star in the adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s horror tale about an ill-fated Antarctic expedition, “At the Mountains of Madness”. Guillermo Del Toro confirmed that there is a part for Perlman in his film, if he’s available.
“All I can tell you is if Ron Perlman is free, he will be in … I wrote a part for him. He read it and if everything falls in place, Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him.”
“Ron plays Larson, the sort of dog guy, the guy that cares for the dogs and the sled — the part of the expedition that is dog sleds … It’s a fantastic character. I really love him. He’s sort of a pragmatic guy, doesn’t care about science or the mythology or the cosmology. He just is a hard-boiled Nordic man, and it is written specifically for him.”
Ron Perlman as a “hard-boiled Nordic man” in a movie full of giant monsters? I like the sound of that. Perlman is currently filming “Drive”, and has a number of other projects in the works. Del Toro is in the midst of pre-production on “Madness”, but there is no solid shooting schedule, so at the moment it is unclear if the schedules will sync up.
