In their continued effort to convince fanboys everywhere that they actually know what they’re doing and not just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks, Fox has announced they’re reviving the off-again on-again “Deadpool” movie. The studio has even gone so far as to slot the film for a February 12, 2016 release date.
Wow, an actual release date! That means a “Deadpool” movie is assured, right? Not so fast, my friends.
Release dates are like Hollywood trophy wives — the guys in expensive suits will change them up pretty much whenever they feel like it, so it’s not as if this is set in stone. Per example: How many release dates has Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman” gone through? Exactamundo.
But according to the latest report, the Merc with a Mouth aka Wade Wilson is being moved into production, with Tim Miller still attached to direct. The only unknown part is the involvement of Ryan Reynolds, who last played a superhero in the underwhelming “Green Lantern,” and it’s not like his career trajectory is, er, very high right now. (I’m still trying to wash the stink of “R.I.P.D.” off my eyeballs a year later.)
I honestly wouldn’t be surprise if Fox decided to dump Reynolds and start all over. It sounds like something Fox would do. But in case they don’t and Reynolds finally — finally — plays the Merc with a Mouth, here’s a little of what you can expect, via that “Deadpool” test footage that got everyone all excited:
