This Weekend’s Pick: The Strangers

Supposedly based on a true story, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman are a happy couple who are about to confront the terror of their lives — 3 strangers in masks who have randomly chosen them — will they survive? That remains to be seen in the new horror movie “The Strangers”, our Weekend Pick (well, it was either this one or that Godawful “Sex and the City” crime against humanity), from first-time writer/director (and former actor) Bryan Bertino, whose two previous credits in front of the camera included the pivotal roles of “Smoking Guy” and “Soldier” in a couple of movies. Yeah, maybe he was always destined to work behind the camera, as it turns out.
After returning from a wedding reception, a couple staying in an isolated vacation house receive a knock on the door in the mid-hours of the night. What ensues is a violent invasion by three strangers, their faces hidden behind masks. The couple find themselves in a violent struggle, in which they go beyond what either of them thought capable in order to survive.
