Thor Casts Sif and Some Secret Villainous Guy
Comic Book Movie News, Thor (2011) Movie — By Nix on September 22, 2009
And yes, you can forget about that rumor that had Jessica Biel playing Asgardian babe warrior Sif, even though watching Biel flexing those perfect abs with a sword in her hands would have been so much more preferable than watching her chase Faceman and his pals. But oh well. Instead, THR reports that the role has gone to Kyle XY’s Jaimie Alexander (below). Okay, Alexander ain’t bad, but come on, we couldn’t get Diora Baird for this?
Meanwhile, the trade also reports that ineffectual 24 First Husband Colm Feore (top left) will be playing a mysterious villain in the movie. For some reason, the studio is keeping the role a big secret, and hasn’t bothered to send the finished script to any of the actors for fear they might, you know, tweet about it or something. Actors are doing that a lot lately. In any case, doesn’t Feore just looks like he was born to play villains? Genre fans may remember Feore not just from last season’s 24, where he played the First Husband to the show’s first female President, but Feore was also the badass armored villain in “The Chronicles of Riddick”.
The film, set to be directed by Shakespearean guy Kenneth Branagh, will see relative newcomer Chris Hemsworth playing Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is demoted down to Earth and forced to live among us lowly humans. While on Earth, our fallen hero must learn the ways of a true warrior, just in time to battle dark forces from Asgard intent on invading Earth, probably at the urging of the mischievous Loki (to be played by Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s half-brother, and the film’s central villain. Little Natalie Portman will play Jane Foster, Thor’s puny human love interest with a squeaky voice and, one presumes, spunky personality.
By Odin’s beard! Shooting on “Thor” commences in October!

She looks good to me. I just wonder who the guy is playing, he looks more like a Loki to me than the other guy. Hmmms.
Is it just me or does Feore look like a great fit for the Red Skull? I wouldn’t even hazzard a theory on why he would show up in “Thor” but his facial features do lend themselves to the look of the perrenial Captain America nemesis.
No, you are absolutely right. My friends think he’ playing Malekith (Demon SOrcerer) but Red Skull would be perfect for him.
That guy will either be “Malekith”, which is highly likely or he will be playing as “Ymir”, The king of the frost giants and Loki’s real father. Actually him playing as Ymir would make total sense being that HE LOOKS JUST LIKE BOTH LOKI AND TOM HIDDLESTON! I haven’t seen Jaimi Alexander’s acting skills yet but she does look like Lady Sif. Any chic’s got a lot of training to do to truly fill Lady Sif’s shoes. Lady Sif is a total badass and takes no sh%t from anybody, not even Thor. She once punched Thor dead center in the face and it hurt! Even though Sif loves Thor, she hates his arrogance and stupidity at times. All her respect and loyalty goes to the “All Father” Odin only. Sif is a true warrior and she’s got balls.
Nice. I’m starting to really look forward to this as it could be the next big fantasy film, and it’s based on a Marvel property.
It’s a good thing that they were given more time on this film because it needed it. This film is so easy to mess up especially keeping it in line with the continuity of the other Marvel Studios films slate especially The Avengers. Looks like Branagh is really looking for some serious talent and not just big names.
I agree. Branagh isn’t stupid, he knows there’s alot riding on this and if he messes up it will be big. So he’s getting talent, not just names and faces, or casting because “they look like the character.”
There is aso a possibility though that Colm Feore may play as “Sutur” The Fire Demon God. We’ll just have to wait and see, anyway whoever he plays I’m sure he’ll be awsome.
Who do you think Stellan Skarsgard is gonna play? What about Fandril, or Hogun?
Stellan still might be in as Odin even though IMDB has Brian Blessed as Odin. IMDB is not 100% reliable or factual with their info. Branagh already has the dashingness and charm of Fandril and eerily looks very similar to Fandril in one of his movies with the Eril Flynesque mustache and beard. As far as Hogun, I have no idea I hope that Josh Brolin gets it though or maybe Josh Hartnett they both have that look especially with the mustache.
Branagh would be a perfect Fandril, but so would Jude Law if he has indeed been cast. Brolin would be a great Hogun, Hartnet is too young though. And
I agree Josh Hartnett would be too young especially if Branagh himself plays as Fandral. If Branagh is trying to get a young cast to play as The Warriors Three then I can see Hartnett playing as Hogun especially if Jude Law is cast as Fandral. I would rather like to see a more mature cast as The Warriors Three. As i said in before in other posts, I think the greatest cast for The Warriors Three would be 1)Fandral:Kenneth Branagh 2)Volstagg:Brendan Gleeson/Brian Blessed 3)Hogun:Josh Brolin. It would be a diffucult split decision between Brendan and Brian because Brendan is a great actor capable of being comical, serious, boisterous as demontstrated in “Troy”. He’s a natural “Redhead”,his height is 6′2 and about 190 lbs. and quite capable of doing action scenes. Brian Blessed is extremely boisterous, has a very loud “signature” voice is also a big man but about 5′9 maybe 205 lbs but is much older than Brendan Blessed and the action eh…Well…Thinking it over I think I would rather nominate Brendan. Boots, camera tricks and prostetics could make Brendan look HUGE!!! Josh Brolin easily has the stoic attitude, piercing squinty eyes, and dangerous demeanor of Hogun down 100%. And….. What do you think of Josh Hartnett as “Balder The Brave”?
Im starting to think the Thor movie will just be a filler till they finalise the avengers movie.
I forgot though that when rumors were going around about Josh Hartnett being cast as Loki, I was against it and thought that Josh Hartnett would be perfect to play as “Malekith” The Dark Elf Sorcerer, as a side-story villain for the “Warriors Three”. But…. Like Dedpool’s friend said, Colm Feore could be “Malekith” and that actually would make more sense if he’d be up against a mature cast of the “Warriors Three”.
Branagh would be PERFECT as Fandral, and he looks the part and can do dashing AND whimsical. Brolin as Hogun is also PERFECT! And Brian Blessed would be a great Volstagg and would leave room for Skarrsgard to play Odin. I think Josh Hartnet wouldn’t be bad as Balder, but Law would be better if he was signed. He’s not too young looking (look at him in Sherlock Holmes) and I think he has the weight to make even the smallest role great. Hatrnet is a great actor but I don’t know if this film is for him.
I agree having Josh Hartnett in this movie isn’t necessary but actually thinking about JUDE LAW as BALDER actually works a hell of a lot more!!!!!!!!!!!! Balder is supposed to be the most handsome of all the Asgardians and is rumored to secretly be Thor’s brother. It’s an Asgardian rumor but it makes sense and would be another great sublte story line for the movie. I can totally see Jude as Balder!!!! As far as Robert Deniro is concerned, I can see him as a detective or something following Dr.Donald Blake around and spying on him trying to figure him out or what is it about Dr.Blake that is so mysterious. And why all these miraculous and fantastic things keep revolving around him. I can totally see that. Somewhat like the agent that followed Dr.Banner around in the Hulk Tv series.
Exactly what i was thinking for DeNiro. I actually hope they were both cast. I still think Diora Baird should play Enchantress, okay not really but she’d look good in the costume.
I can totally see Deniro in there saying “Theres sumthin funny bout yous’, I can’t put my finga on it yet but I’ll figya it out” Dr.Blake- “Who me, what!? I’m just a doctor I don’t know what your talking about! Deniro-”Yeah you, every time sumthin’ crazy or miraculous happens in this city it always seems to be close to ya vicinity or you seem to disapear” “And aint none of this stuff start happening til you showed up,from where, who da hell knows.” “This hospital was going down the tubes, practically executing it’s patients,I would’ntve sent my worst enemy here, then you show up and it’s like that “Touched by an Angel” show or sumthin’, ya eva watch dat? DR.Blake-”Uh…No, I don’t really watch Telivision” Deniro-”So Doc what DO you do in ya spare time? Dr.Blake-”That’s none of your business, what are you asking me out on a date? “Just who the hell are you anyway? Deniro-”Don’t worry about dat Dr.Feelgood,I’m da one who’ll be findin out who’s who here,I’ll be in touch..Oh by the way I think I’m coming down with sum kinda flu or sumthin, I hope it aint dat birdflu or H1 or 2 or wateva, mind if I drop by tomorrow? Dr.Blake-”Yes,I do mind, I’m a very busy doctor and you cant’ just expect me to be free for you but the hospital has plenty of other good doctors that’ll be willing to help. Deniro-”Ok,Doc i guess I need to start eating more apples, anyways I see yous’ around.
Well Damn! I’d say lay off the accent…I means da accent…LOL, and that’s some good dialogue. He doesn ALWAYS talk like that. But hell yeah. I’d piture him more like the father in Meet the Parents, very intelligent, very intelectual, and overly friendly. It’d be great. But really great dialogue.
Yeah true,LOL!!!Thanks, The accent shouldn’t be overdone your right. I just could’nt help it though. Haha. Well I guess we both agree then, Deniro in “Thor” could deffinately work!!
VERILY!!! LOL Besides if anyone would make this work it’s Branagh. I so can’t wait. I really hope Thor’s costume in like the one Thor has in Ultimate Alliance 2. It’s more of a realistic take on his classic costume.
