Thor Official Trailer Finally Gets Banished to Earth

Just in case, you know, you’ve been waiting for this and never got around to seeing that five-minute long Comic Con trailer we posted, like, eons ago. Anyways, here’s the official trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Thor”, from director Kenneth Branagh (still the biggest WTF in moviedom to me). The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman as the human lass who enchants him to become a better person and save the world. It’s a good thing she didn’t show him any of the “Star Wars” prequels. Zing! Ahem. The trailer, which features a lot of the same footage as the Comic Con trailer, but with some improved SFX and additional footages of the Destroyer and the Frost Giants, below.

Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Starring Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia and directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Thor brings the lightning May 6, 2011.

    HOLY SHIT !!!!

  • The Strongest There Is

Actually Impressed by this. I like how they are trying to bring it down to earth in many ways, not just literally. I am trying to approach this film like my roommate who has a problem already with the idea of Thor existing in the same world as the Iron Man films which he loves. He also doesn’t want superman in a movie with the current batman films because they ruin it for him. This Trailer sells me a spiderman/ Day the world stood still (remake) type film. I like this.

  • Brent

I’ve had mixed feelings about this, but it actually looks pretty rad. Still, it’ll be hard for me to watch and not be thinking “take it back, Brad. Take back what you said about Thor” the entire time.

I wonder if they’ll decide to put it out on a “Thursday” opening for the obvious connection. Maybe a 9 or 11pm Thursday showing.

  • Vampelle

i was expecting at least in the fight scenes or on adventures he will wear this helmet. But this seems to more force on showing this hair than the helmet.

    Same for the rest also.

  • Loeilducyclone

1 : ther’es no more GODS in Asgards but some kind of “advanced” aliens ?
2 : science and magic are the same thing ?

This is not the mighty Thor, God of Thunder, but only a man coming from another distant planet.
This is not the Jack Kirby’s way, for sure.
    Too bad.

    • Ulik

@ Loeilducyclone 1 : It’s a modern realization that the “Gods” of ancient times were seen as Gods because they were extremely advanced humanoids who visited primitive humans in ancient times. It’s like if were to travel back in time with your iphone and driving a car, they’d have thought you were a God. They are not aliens in the sense like “Starwars”, they are beings from another dimension who are alien to earth’s dimension. So as the scientists come to realize this in the movie, there is no reason to really call them Gods. 2: Runes(divination),Fire reading(divination),inter-dimensional travel & communication and molecular manipulation, are all apart of “ALCHEMY” which is THOUSANDS of years old. Alchemetic sciences are apart of pseudo-science which as of yet hasn’t been proven or disproven. The most famous concept in Alchemy is changing lead to gold and in the case of Jesus, water to wine. The earliest accounts of ancient alchemy can be traced back to ancient Egypt other parts of Africa,Sumeria then also Europe. Sacred geometry is also a branch of this which involves opening portals to other dimensions like in the legend of “Stonehenge” which is said to have been an ancient “Stargate”. So you see Alchemy and Magic go hand in hand. Those who don’t understand it,think it’s magic and in a way it is but its science as well. TRUE magicians are masters of chemistry. Jack Kirby’s Thor and Asgard was a mix of “sci-fi” and fantasy so this movie IS staying true to that.

      • Loeildu6clone

        I know all these things.
But the Jack Kirby’s Thor is THE god of thunder
and Asgard is the house of the nothern gods, not a place with aliens. Just because of that, this is not the Kirby’s way. Assimilate science with magic (or whatever) is just a way for Marvel to say “OK, guys… Nothern Gods doesn’t really exists, but, you know, they have some really nice weapons, and suits, and whatever…”
        Just BULSHIT !!!
Making a “modern movie” like that is not very clever because MAGIC is not SCIENCE, for sure. Do you really think science and technologie are LOGICAL ? Do you really thinks that Mjolnir and other Asgardian devices are made with “science” or whatever ? Do you think that science today seems like a “magic” way ?
Please, be serious. And it was so difficult for marvel to choose good actors, with CHARISMA and PRESENCE ? I just see in this movie a blond strong guy, with a lot of muscles, and an actor playing a strong alien. Nothing else.
You know, to think that religion and science are a same thing is very dangerous : a lot of people believe that the Big Bang (scientific theory) is done by a god….
Maybe Marvel is ok with this…

Magic is not science. Magic is not alchemy. You can’t explain what magic is.
        That’s all.

        • Ulik

Hey well I appreciate your opinion as well as respect it. If you don’t like the take of where they’re going with this movie that’s cool,to each his own. BTW I also respect your passion for Thor and the Asgardians. I’ve been reading Thor comics over 27 years, and I’ve also studied Norse & Greek mythology in school and had to make various reports on it and other mythologies & religions.Coming from a person that actually studies Alchemy and “Kemetic” sciences; incantations and spells ARE a form of chemistry, the tones(words)sounds even mixtures of different herbs and minerals, elements are mixed in ways that create certain results. Alchemy is a closer way to explain the intricate ways of mysticism & magic. You see Marvel could have gone 100% fantasy with this film or they could have made it meld better with the rest of the Marvel U in the Avengers by showing the connection between science and magic.I know you are a fan but you also have to comprehend that WE fans will accept Thor in Iron Man’s world without explanation but everyone else won’t get it or accept it and it won’t work because it will seem silly and make absolutely no sense. There has to be a middle ground and they just can’t appeal to just the fans only or else they won’t make any money which would result in us not seeing anymore Marvel Studios movies. Thor,Captain America,Iron Man and Hulk are drastically different but they all have a connection that makes the story work. They couldn’t have just thrown all these illogical characters together without explaining how they can exist in the same universe. ALCHEMY IS a proto/psuedo-science and is well connected with spell casting, chemistry mysticism, geometry, sorcery and magic. RESEARCH THE SUBJECT.

          • Ulik

@Loeildu6clone Also there is a very strong connection with religions and science when you go deeper to the origins of modern religion or the Bible. RESEARCH: author ZACHARIA SITCHIN and his books on the origins of the bible. The connection with science, religion, otherworldly beings and the Gods will amaze you. Also to reiterate Thor and the Asgardians are not aliens from outer space, they are alien to this dimension just like a person can be an illegal alien to your country.Alien doesn’t mean from outer space.

Dude, Magic or Science, why take a stand on something none of us can prove or disprove (and what I mean by none of us, I mean us NOT born with Genius IQ’s)-be grateful you’re using your computer and typing away your little arrogant opinions. It’s a movie about a character that borderlines magic and advance science if you take the time to think about it. I always say, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it and don’t make it miserable for everyone else. Enjoy the ride, isn’t like you contributed to it besides bad mouthing it. If you can do better, do it yourself, me-I’ll be first in line. Thanks..

            Well said. Well said indeed!!

    • Jimijet

      aye U almost liked it

  • Loeildu6clone

Hey ! Mister Understood, why do you want convince me so much ? ^^
Do you work on this forum for Marvel ?
You know, there’s a lot of theories about science, about magic, and the link between. So, I respect aloso your opinions, and I said that this movie is NOT about the character created by Jack Kirby, because Marvel don’t want GODS on screen (it’s more easy to make a film, and people admit that science and religion are the same AND IT IS NOT !)
By this movie, the theory about the birth of the universe made by evidence of the science simply vanish, and the real world is not a magic one. Law of the universe are not magic. Mathematics are not magic and my computer also. But many people want us to believe that the Big Bang is a mystic thing, made by God or whatever. Is just PROPAGANDA via Marvel.
If you are so brilliant at school, just think a little out and free your mind.

Iron Man is just a nice movie (not the 2), Spiderman was a nice movie… all the Marvel’s movies are just “nice” (for me). So WTF with so many millions’s dollars ans the so famous interesting characters from the comics ? It is not possible to make a really GREAT movie ?
    Marvel make money, that’s all.
And DC too (Dark knight is a bullshit and the next Green Lantern too)

One thing I don’t understand : il you are so interested by authors like Z. Sitchin, why do you loose your time with comics ? and I realise that Google is your friend.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

He’s just debating not convincing. He’s a Thor fan. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
And who’s to say someone that reads comics can’t be into other more heady stuff?

As for your claim that this isn’t Kirby’s creation you may as well say that it hasn’t been Kirby’s creation since the 70′s.THis whole thing about them not being gods, persay has been around a LONG time. But in the end he’s still reffered to as the GOD of Thunder. The same thing goes for the olypians in Marvel comics. It’s their way of saying that ALL different religions and pantheons can exist because they’re not Gods in the sense that we know. They are extradimensional beings with abilities beyond even the most powerful heroes, and life spans that would seem infinite. That said they are still reffered to as gods. Marvel hadn’t even used the idea of a God and Devil until recently in Ghost Rider. Mephisto and others were used for the Devil, and God was ambguous and only refferenced at most. SO it has nothing to do with just the movie but the Marvel universe as a whole. The comics are always mixing magic and science, hell that’s how they just brought Cap back.
This is just as bad as complaining that this Thor isn’t the one as the Norse Mythology. Well DUH! It’s Marvel’s version.

But long story short don’t start insulting people because you disagree with them,it just shows how small you are.

    • Ulik

Hey I’m just having a discussion with you on the subject matter,as I do with others here, that’s what this forum is for. Judging by your choice of words you seem to be a very upset person. Are you angry or having a bad day? I’m not angry at you although you seem very disturbed. I’m not trying to come across as a Mr.Knowitall,I’m just having a discussion about the reasons why Marvel Studios(not Fox or Sony) chose to go in the direction they’re going for fans and the general audience. I’m continuing the conversation because I’m very passionate about Marvel comics because they helped me have more of an interest to read and study other things as a kid. I know it’s fiction, but it’s fiction based on facts,sci-fi,history etc. I study and read a lot of different things but I don’t claim to know everything and even if I did Google stuff for info what difference would it make, would that make me less intelligent? No, how about you? Btw I never said science and religion are the same, there’s a connection when you study it’s early origins of religion. Anyway I’m enjoying this conversion,I have an open mind and I’m always open to learn new things, maybe even from you. So just relax my friend. Much ado about nothing.

      • LongTimeFan

Thanks for replying in the style and manner that you did, not sure if Mr. Loeildu6clone added himself to the chat just to heat everyone up. Believe he did a excellent job if that was the case. I couldn’t get past his initial insult without having left my own two cents, but your comments won me over in the end..thanks for that.

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

They pop up from time to time. You get used to them, and after awhile you have to just ignore them cause you;ll end up pulling your hair out or something. A friendly debate or discussion is fine, but when insutls start getting thrown about the maturity level plumets and brings us all down (or attempts to). Ulik is always good for a discussion not an argument.

        • ulik

Hey thanks for your insightful support and comments. People like you are always welcome here. I’ve been having great conversions with Dedpool for almost two years(I think). Dedpools’ a very creative and intelligent guy,I’ve learned a lot from him and I appreciate his passion for the comics and other media. It’s not about agreeing or disagreeing here so much,it’s about sharing ideas, having fun and great respectful conversations, whether we agree or not that’s why I keep coming here. I also can’t go without appreciation from all of the people that bring us these great topics like my main man NIX!

  • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

Loved watching him throw Mjolnir and have it return!!!
As for the helmet I’m sure he’ll be wearing it and then it’ll come off in battle. The thing is the helm doesnt have a strap, and that’d probably be the only way to keep it on when jumping and fighting and such.

    • Ulik

Hey thanks for that assist up there^. Yeah, I can understand it cuz Tom Hiddleston said that his helmet looked badass but it was heavy and cumbersome to wear. LOL! So yeah having the helmet on all the time probably wouldn’t have worked unless they chose to make them from a lighter material and or something to hold them down. I’m still baffled as to where is Balder in this? I’ve heard that there is someone frozen with the throne room halls I wonder if it’s Balder, or who do you think it is?

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

No problem. I hate when people have to turn a discussion into an argument and start insulting each other. It’s just silly.

And I have no idea, but seeing how Balder has become so prominent in the comics lately it’d be silly not have him in there.

  • http://www.beyondhollywood.com Todd

I guess I’m in the minority on this one — I’m just not that impressed with the trailer. And I hope the people who will enjoy “Thor” aren’t the same ones who give me crap for owning “Krull”, “The Beastmaster”, and “Deathstalker”. I’m just saying.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

All those movies ROCK!!! LoL. Not many good sowrd and sorcerer films out anymore. And the classics though very outdated hol a certain charm and it isn’t just nostalgia. As for “Thor” I think this looks pretty good for an origin piece. If we get a sequel i hope it takes place more in Asgard. We can watch Avengers for Thors Earthly adventures.

    • ulik

Woah!!! Remember those from back in the day!!! Great movies! Be proud to own those movies!

I have Krull on Blu-ray. Loved Beastmaster as a kid. Never really got into Deathstalker, though.
