Three Character Spots for the Muties of X-Men: First Class

Marvel has released three new minute-long character spots for three of Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class” students — Caleb Landry Jones’ Banshee, Lucas Till as Havok, and Nicholas Hoult as Beast. Each spot features a ton of new footage, so definitely check them all out below.

As an aside, I still can’t get over the fact that young Mystique and young Beast were supposed to be lovers, though; that’s just weird.

Class is in session June 3, 2011.

Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy aka Banshee:

Lucas Till as Alex Summers aka Havok:

Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy aka Beast:

Banshee is frickin epic, he’s probs gonna be my fave in the movie, but havok’s power is frickin epic too, gosh this is awesome, wow they’re all good actors, but Beast has that funny look about him you know he looks nerdy, I hope he is funny and not too serious, I hope he does some awesome stuff, this is shaping up to a good movie

These look cool and all – but for some reason I’m not getting hyped for this. It feels like what would be an awesome tv show – I mean look how long they’ve milked smallville for? An entire show called “Mutant Academy” or something – epic!

By the by – I’d pay money to see the raw footage of that first shot of Havok blowing up those targets outside – “Okay, just act like you’re using a hoola-hoop…”

I’ll tell ya, every time I go one way with this movie I see another image or trailer and it totally changes my mind again! I literally just finished writing a post about how how the change in roster of the X-Men’s first class and the new line up of the Hellfire Club was blasphemy. Now a few moments later I watch these three clips and I’m blown away! Banshee’s promo was outstanding! He will definately be a highlight for me. Although I wish they would have given him his Irish accent. Havok’s spot was incredible! Really cool realization of his powers. Beast’s clip was really cool as well! I’m glad that they included his hand-like feet. The transformation sequence looks amazing. As for the romance with Mystique, I suppose she will eventually end up with Azazel when she ultimately switches sides. Thus we have Nightcrawler. I can’t wait for a few more of these to hit!

HAHA!!! LMAO!!! But yeah i know what you mean. My turn to weigh in:

Banshee: Um Watch it again Juggy, he has an accent. It’ not super strong but its definitely there. Loved the way they worked with him, and using his powers to dissrupt the sub’s sonar was brilliant.

Havok: Holy Crap. That looked sick. I actually like that they’re making the blast come from his chest and not his hands. It gives the inhibter another function. Also liked the rings, but the hula-hoop gyration was weird lol.

Beast: Awesome! love how they’re using the whole he tries to cure himself and furthers the mutation angle from the comics. And the ape feet were awesome.

Oh and though not in them alot, MacAvoy is rocking the Xavier role. I totally believe both him and Fassbender as a young Magneto and Xavier.

    • Juggernaut

Agreed on that point. Both McAvoy and Fassbender embody the younger Xavier and Magneto terrifically! The tutelage by McAvoy’s Charles is spot on and Fassbenders intensity and against the grain attitude are perfect without being a caricature of Stewart and McKellan.

Exactly! I want to see more about them! Also I wonder where this film will take us, since the continuity is pretty much up in the air except for the fact that by the early 2000s we get the team we saw in the original X-men. I’d love three more period pieces set in the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s.

        • Juggernaut

Absolutely. Embracing the no holds barred style cast of characters I’d like to see these characters show up, on either side. They definately need to bring in Sinister and Apocalypse as villains. Those two cannot transpose from bad to good. I’d like to see Forge, Unus, Vanisher, Quicksilver, Polaris, Morph or Mimic. I’d also like to see Sunfire on the big screen! Filling in the time between this ‘First Class’ and the line up from the original film those characters and of course Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey.

Well since Famke Jensen, Halle Berry, and Jason Marsden (the youngest of the three) will be too old to play themselves just before The original X-men I doubt we’ll see them. Apocalypse I also doubt because they haven’t gone that big with the franchise and he’s a big villain, like Darkseid big.

            Sent on the go.

Sinister, Forge, maybe Quicksilver, Polaris and even Sunfire I can see. Mimic and Unus are a maybe but possible with them using obscure mutants.

If they are using Riptide anything is possible! Lol. In regards to the statement above, I really think that in order to tie these films to the first three, the last sequel to ‘First Class’ will need to incorporate the team from the first film (Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey). I also think that while Apocalypse is a BIG villain he is one that needs to be done either in the prequels or in a sequel to ‘The Last Stand’. Having a sequel from there going into an AOA type storyline would be awsome! As long as it’s done well of course.

@e495647c7d948f8dd0f2e3cd7394ef2c:disqus I definitely don’t want to see a AOA type flick, unless its stand alone. Apoclaypse needs to be the LAST villain for the LAST film in the franchise. I think Sinister would fit the Prequels a bit better than Apocalypse, but you could always have him in the background like a puppet master villain pulling everyone’s strings. I agree you need to have Cye, Storm and Jean but the question becomes who plays the,.

    • Juggernaut

There definately needs to better casting for Cyclops, Jean and Storm than there was for XOW. The kid who played a younger Scott was awful! Having one of the prequels dealing with Sinister would be cool and having it set up a sequel to “The Last Stand’ where Sinister reveals that he is merely the right hand man of Aoacalypse would be cool. I wasn’t talking about an actual AOA storyline just similar factions and circumstances. Having the four horsemen unleashed to destroy the CX-Men, humanity’s last chance, would be awsome. Evil mutants from prior films set up as agents of Apocalypse to be his prelates. Have the Horsemen be Abyss, Holocaust, renamed for the P.C. Hollywood set, to Nemesis, Sinister and Archangel! It would be epic! Maybe taking place in two films. Magneto could lead the remaining mutants in place of Charles, who was killed in TLS, like he does in AOA. Colossus, Iceman, Storm, Shadowcat, Wolverine. Sabretooth, Pyro, Multiple man, Mystique. An adult Leech. Beast and an old friend, the returning Banshee. Have new mutants brought in. Quicksilver, Sunfire, Morph and Gambit is back! Incorporate the time traveling storylines as well from the Days Of Future Past. Bring in Cable and Bishop as part of two future factions, like in Ultimate X-Men. Gambit as the suspected asassin of Magneto who is now in the ranks of the new Magneto ran X-Men. That would be awsome!

Okay now THAT has potential. This isn’t your normal rant that’s heavy on the wish fatcor and impossibilty. That was pretty awesome.

Thanks? Lol. I get what you’re saying though. Usually I tend to lean towards a total reboot done by Marvel Studios. In accepting the fact that Fox is not going to return the rights and they aren’t going to reboot the cast and story it allowed me to take a different look. I’m not totally opposed to the idea of what Fox and company have done in the past or are doing going forward. I just think that delivering a truer first class film for the fans would have been an easy enough thing to do. It was also my preference that’s all.

Agreed 100% glad you’re expandibg those horizons. Lol.
