Although it is another remake, I’m still kind of excited about acclaimed filmmaker Takashi Miike’s upcoming samurai opus “Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai”. Does this one really need a redux? Probably not. However, judging from the trio of snazzy clips you’re about to dive directly into, Miike seems to be doing the material justice. After witnessing the glory that is “13 Assassins”, I’m definitely on-board with the prolific director’s shift towards more mature, deliberately-paced cinema. That having been said, here’s hoping his next effort is something original. I kind of miss his more esoteric stuff.

“Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai” is currently in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Expect this one to hit Japanese theaters towards the end of the year.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at)
