Three New Pics from Public Enemies

Public Enemies (2009) Movie — By Nix on January 5, 2009

As part of their 2009 preview of some highly anticipated upcoming big movies coming to a big screen near you, Entertainment Weekly has got three new images from Michael Mann’s period gangster flick “Public Enemies”, starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as G-Man Melvin Purvis. Unfortunately the images are not of the high resolution sort, as is the EW way, so these will have to do until something better comes around. (By the way, why do you think EW always makes their exclusive images so small? Do you think they’re trying to save bandwidth or something? I don’t get it.)

Via EW:

Directed by Michael Mann (Heat, The Insider), and costarring Christian Bale as the dashing federal agent Melvin Purvis, Public Enemies might sound like a blood-soaked chapter of ancient history. But the film’s themes couldn’t be more timely: Dillinger was sticking up banks at a time when people weren’t exactly rooting for the banks. As a result, he became something larger than life—a rock star with a tommy gun. ”Some people might disagree, but I think he was a real-life Robin Hood,” says Depp. ”I mean, the guy wasn’t completely altruistic, but he went out of his way not to kill anybody. He definitely gave a lot of that money away. I love the guy.”

The film is due out in July 2009, which means it’ll be going up against all the other Summer Event films of the year. Despite the star wattage, that’s probably not a very good idea. This looks like a late year release type of movie to me, but what do I know.
