I gotta think Cameron Diaz’s Texas cowboy character is a put-on in this remake of “Gambit”. It’s gotta be some kind of ploy and she’s purposefully doing an atrocious “Texan” accent, and we find out at the end of the movie that she was a New York chick all along trying to pull a con (besides the obvious con with Alan Rickman, I mean). If that isn’t the case, then oh boy… Anyways. Check out three clips from “Gambit”. It’s wacky. It’s accent-heavy. It’s got Colin Firth with wet stands on the front of his trousers. Hijinks!
An art curator decides to seek revenge on his abusive boss by conning him into buying a fake Monet, but his plan requires the help of an eccentric and unpredictable Texas rodeo queen.
Also starring Tom Courtenay, Stanley Tucci, Cloris Leachman, Anna Skellern, and Togo Igawa.
“Gambit” is opening later this month in the UK, but it doesn’t appear to have a US release date yet. I blame this on U.S. distributors getting a whiff of Cameron Diaz’s accent and immediately running for the doors.
