Got bedbug problems? No worries. “The House of the Devil” and “The Innkeepers” director Ti West is here to save you from those scratchy, itchy little bastards. That is, if it turns out to be bedbugs. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that it might be more than just little critters rummaging about in writer Ben H. Winters’ novel.
West has signed up to adapt the book for the folks at Tango Pictures, though given West’s credits directing horror movies, I’m guessing he’ll also end up directing this one, too.
Written by Winters, “Bedbugs” follows the Wendt family, husband and wife Alex and Susan, and their daughter, Emma, who have just moved into their dream apartment run by an eccentric landlady and a creepy handyman. Then weird stuff starts happening:
Susan soon discovers that her new home is crawling with bedbugs . . . or is it? She awakens every morning with fresh bites, but neither Alex nor their daughter Emma has a single welt. An exterminator searches the property and turns up nothing. The landlady insists her building is clean. Susan fears she’s going mad—until a more sinister explanation presents itself: she may literally be confronting the bedbug problem from Hell.
Sounds like someone needs to change the bed sheets more often.
Here’s a trailer for the book (yes, they’re doing that now):
