Tilda Swinton (“We Need to Talk About Kevin”) and Jamie Bell (“The Adventures of Tintin”) are in talks to join director Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming English-language debut “Snow Piercer”. The pair would join Chris Evans, who will reportedly play the lead in the independent drama. Park Chan-wook (“Oldboy”, “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance”) is producing from Moho Films.
The post-apocalyptic film is based on a French graphic novel. The story takes place in an arctic world after a destructive war, on a train that carries the last remaining scraps of civilization and moves in an endless loop. On board the survivors attempt to cope with their situation and find a way to survive.
This is promising, fertile ground for Bong and Park to take on, story wise as well as thematically. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the casting of Evans, I like him (mostly based on my undying love for “Not Another Teen Movie”), but I always think of him as having a more comedic edge, even as Captain America. With the addition of Switon and Bell, two talented actors who are getting all sorts of recognition lately, things seem to be coming together nicely. The more I find out about this project, the more interested I am. Filming for “Snow Piercer” is scheduled to begin in March.
