Tim Story just can’t get enough of comic books and turning comic books into movies. He’s still putting the finishing touches on “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” (I’m guessing removing all those potentially naughty bits for the PG rating is hard work), but The Hollywood Reporter is already saying that Story has inked a deal to direct a live-action movie version of the DC Vertigo comic book “The Losers”. Akiva Goldsman is producing (no word on rather he’ll also write the script) along with Peter Berg (“The Kingdom”).
“The Losers” follows a highly trained and eclectic Special Ops team that is set up, betrayed and left for dead. They go on a quest to find who sold them out and why, righting wrongs they encounter along the way.
The tales of “The Losers” ran in the pages DC Comics’ “G.I. Combat” and “Our Fighting Forces” in the 1970s and revolved around the adventures of a misfit group of U.S. troops during World War II. The book was relaunched about five years ago under the company’s Vertigo imprint by writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock, who turned the title into a gritty modern action-espionage adventure book.
“The Losers” sounds a lot like a more mature title than the “Fantastic Four”, so it’ll be interesting to see what Story can do with something without a “P” in the rating. After all, we’re talking about a “gritty modern action-espionage adventure book”. Then again, the “Fantastic Four” did just got a PG rating…
