Todd Field to Adapt The Creed of Violence

The Creed of Violence Movie — By Nix on June 2, 2009

Actor turned writer-director Todd Field (”Little Children”), who is currently adapting the novel “Blood Meridian” (based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, “The Road”), has signed on to adapt “The Creed of Violence” for Universal. Word is, Field won’t direct, but will only script the project, though it’s mentioned he rarely adapts something without also directing. I normally wouldn’t bother covering this, because frankly Todd Field isn’t my dream movie date, but the premise of “The Creed of Violence” sounds killer.

Says Variety:

“Creed of Violence” is the second novel by [Boston] Teran, the secretive writer who penned the cult-fave tome “God Is a Bullet.”

“Creed” takes place in 1910, as two men — a desperado and a government agent with a secret connection to him — try to thwart an arms smuggling ring.

The novel itself won’t be published until this Fall, but Universal liked the idea so much they bought up the movie rights before the novel was even sold.

The movie is being described as a Western epic, and Michael De Luca will produce.

Below: Boston Teran? Most awesome novelist name EVER.

I admire Field’s work a lot, and as a director he seems well suited for a western. After all, IN THE BEDROOM was really just a western set in New England.

I agree with the above comment. Field is well suited to direct a western. The two films he’s made have strong adversarial wars between characters and violence that is truly shocking. But I hope he makes BLOOD MERIDIAN first.
