So, uh, there’s this story in the British newspaper The Sun that has Paramount and Tom Cruise making nice-nice (remember how it ended between the two? Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen thanks God their divorce wasn’t as messy, it was that bad) and the Cruister returning to one of his biggest hits for a sequel — “Top Gun 2”. Obviously you should take this not with a grain of salt, but a big salt shaker’s worth, but if you think about it, it isn’t so far-fetched. What has aging and fading action stars done when the shine isn’t so shiny anymore? That’s right, they return to the glory days to hunt down a sequel. And let’s face it, Cruise’s star hasn’t been so shiny lately.
A script outline has been written, but the sequel depends on Cruise, 46, saying yes.
An insider said: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor — and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”
“Top Gun 2”. Wow. It takes my breath away. Get it? Take my breath away? Because that was the big song from the movie? Oh man, my genius is wasted on you bums.
