Tom Cruise Will (Eventually) Save us All in First Trailer for Edge of Tomorrow

So, the funny thing about this first trailer for “Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman’s sci-fi war movie “Edge of Tomorrow”? If all you had was this trailer to go by, you might not even know it was a war movie about humanity fighting for survival against an invading alien horde. Unless, of course, Liman and his screenwriters have completely rewritten the Hiroshi Sakurazaka book (ala “World War Z”). But no, I still see most of the plot points here, though they sure gave away the Emily Blunt surprise twist right off the bat, which was a rather curious move.

Take a gander at the first trailer for “Edge of Tomorrow”, or as I was thinking while reading the book, “Groundhogging Private Ryan”.

Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

Starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh.

Taking it to the edge next year June 6, 2014.

Count me in the excitement. I like his science fiction movies but this could be another Oblivion when it comes to the box office in the US.
