I get the feeling Doug Liman’s new sci-fi actioner “Edge of Tomorrow,” based on the Japanese novel “All You Need is Kill” (still a much better/awesome title if you ask me), will do okay in the States, but will clean up overseas. Definitely in Japan and other locales where Tom Cruise is still a major, major star. I mean, he’s still a star in the States, but let’s face it, it’s not what it used to be.
In any case, here’s Cruise and co-star Emily Blunt on a pair of new posters for “Edge of Tomorrow,” looking armed (check out Blunt’s huge sword). In the film, the duo play futuristic soldiers who are stuck in a time loop and must use it to become better soldiers while fighting off an alien invasion. In the original novel, the fact that Blunt’s character is also stuck in the same loop as Cruise’s character is a bit of a secret until — if I recall correctly — around the halfway point. But in the movie, apparently it’s not a really big secret, because the ads really play it up.
The film co-stars Bill Paxton, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda, Tony Way, and opens June 6, 2014.
