Tomb Raider Producer Confirms Reboot Plans, Talks Crazy

“Tomb Raider 3″? More like “Tomb Raider 0″. As in, a reboot of the franchise. (Huh, that didn’t really make sense. Anyways, just go with it.) While walking the red carpet for “Terminator Salvation”, one of the franchise’s producers, Dan Lim, confirms that the new “Lara Croft” movie will indeed be a reboot of the character ala an Origins Story as previously reported. Angelina Jolie, of course, is out of the question, as they are also going much younger with the character.

Then ol Dan sorta got a brain fart and said this (via Kotaku):

“It’s a great origin story that we’re going to tell, a very character-oriented, I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies…It’s not full-on action. I would say it’s like Terminator, it’s character driven action. For me, the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character.”

Yeah, because we all played the games and watched the Jolie movies because we wanted to know more about Lara Croft and her background, and what she studied in college, and gosh, Lara, why the brown shorts and not the blue ones? That’s exactly why we watched those movies, Dan. It wasn’t the crazy action set pieces or gawking at Jolie strutting around in skin-tight, body-hugging one pieces.

Below: At last, we’ll finally learn the origins of those shorts and tank top, cause, you know, we’ve wondered all this time. Kinda.

LOL. The game was fun and the movies! I haven’t played since it first came out though. But I do like the idea of the character-driven action.

Why even bother with a third movie at this point? It’s been six years since the sequel (which flopped at the box office), and the Tomb Raider franchise has been going downhill since then.

I’ll be surprised if this actually makes it into the theaters.
