#5- MARK V BRIEFCASE ARMOR – (IRON MAN 2) 2010
Undeservingly, “Iron Man 2″ gets a lot of negative feedback. Favreau’s follow up to his 2008 blockbuster hit, “Iron Man” is not the awe inspiring, dramatic effort that its predecessor was but it is an above average comic book film none the less. Filled with plenty of shiny CGI and fantastical explosions “Iron Man 2″ is a fun ride that delivers a lot of cool, new characters and gadgets for Tony to interact with. Most notably is the inclusion of a comic staple, the briefcase armor! During Whiplash’s assault on Stark at the Monaco Speedway, Pepper and Happy deliver Tony the Mark V! There wasn’t a dry seat in the house as the suit was sprung into action and began to adhere to the self professed “Genius billionaire playboy philanthropist”.
#4- COURTING DEATH – (THE AVENGERS) 2012
Yet another monumental after credits scene, the inclusion of the “Mad Titan” was the icing on the delicious cake that was “The Avengers”. There were so many doors opened with the inclusion of this one scene. Any number of characters or scenarios were now possible. This moment left every fanboy awaiting the next move and wondering what was in store for not only “The Avengers” but the entire Marvel Universe.
#3- FOREST SMACKDOWN – (THE AVENGERS) 2012
It is a comic staple. Heroes meet under a strange circumstance; there is a misunderstanding, they clash. A knockdown, drag out fight ensues and they ultimately gain a deeper respect for one another that allows them to work together. Such is so when The God of Thunder meets the invincible Ironman. Sheer strength meets stylish sophistication. Old world meets new age. Magic meets science. Only a true leader like Captain America can put an end to their feud. Perfectly scripted and elegantly executed this moment is a true testament to Joss Whedon’s love of the material and an exhibit of his directorial finesse.
#2- ALWAYS ANGRY (THE AVENGERS) 2012
Mark Ruffalo was in my opinion the best version of The Hulk yet. Many memorable moments come to mind but the best scene of his, in my opinion, was when he confesses his secret to the rest of the group. As he professed his perpetual rage he transformed from the mild mannered Bruce Banner into the irradiated,green goliath and with one punch derails the onslaught of one of the Chitauri leviathan.
#1- AVENGERS ASSEMBLED – (THE AVENGERS) 2012
Although the phrase is never bellowed by Cap in the film, the shot of the camera circling the team may have been the most geek-gasmic scene ever put on film. In that scene The Avengers had truly assembled! Marvel had finally accomplished their master plan. Our favorite heroes were now together on the big screen! That scene was the embodiment of what The Avengers are all about. I’d be remised if I didn’t also include the other iconic scene that highlighted the team. After the invading army was defeated and the planet was saved the team stands together, above their foiled foe. United by their ordeal, Earth’s mightiest heroes would now and forever be known as… The Avengers!
