#10- ENTER DEADPOOL – (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) 2009

Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins Wolverine (2009) Movie Image

When Ryan Reynolds was cast as the “merc with a mouth” in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” comic fans worldwide were thrilled. Reynolds’ brand of sarcasm was perfect for Wade Wilson. While the script butchered the essence of the mutant assassin, Reynolds’ look, delivery and physicality as Deadpool’s witty alter-ego were spot on during the beginning of the film.

SPOT ON!!! I really can’t think of any others really! I mean those are pretty much the really big and memorable moments in the franchise. Honorable mention goes to teh comic suit nod in X-men with the Yellow spandex remark. Since I just got Amazing Spiderman maybe I will do a Spiderman one now.

    • Juggernaut

Thanks man. I was going to replace the scene from ‘X-Men’ where Magneto turns the guns on the police with the similar scene with the missles from ‘First Class’ which was also bad ass but I didn’t want to leave out the entire first movie.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Yeah. Cause that scene was pretty much the best one in the first film, and other than possibly Logan’s first claw reveal that was it for that flick.

      • Lexavi80

There’s one WTF moment (at least for me) that is not on the list:

When Magneto deflects a bullet and it ends right up to Charles spine, causing his legs to be disabled.

I mean… it really caught me by surprise, and is a definitive moment that define X-Men cannon.

  • Lexavi80

    Perfect list!

    • Juggernaut

      Thanks.

I personally would have put Deadpool’s intro at #1. That was just such a perfectly written role/actor/everything.

    • Juggernaut

Unfortunately the whole concept of that character was completely lost after that scene. So sad. There was such promise. I was on board 100% then the rest of the movie happened. Lol. As bad as it was, I have been able to step back from it a bit and let some of what made it so bad dissipate. It suffered from the same flaws as the third Spider-Man film. A rushed script, too many characters, some thrown in for no reason (***coff*** Gambit ***coff***) and a liberties taken with the material.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

Yeah but you’re talking about MOMENTS from the franchise, not whole story arcs.

        • Juggernaut

Yeah, it was cool. The overall lameness took away from the character and his scene which was what landed it at #10 for me. In my opinion Nightcrawler transporting and messin’ dudes up was the bees knees!

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I wouldn’t have made it number one but it was definitely one of the better parts of that film, and the franchise. I’ve had the chance to step back from it as well, (and Jonah Hex) and I don’t hate it as much anymore, as a matter of fact I like it until we get to the third act, then it truly falls apart. Not because of the liberties, but because those liberties made no sense and were for no other reason that a moron at Fox thought it a good idea.

I’ve re-watched Jonah hex, and though they really should’ve left out the Wild Wild West Steampunk crap, the supernatural elements and the spaghetti western moments were good.

I still can’t step back far enough from Spiderman 3 to excuse it’s glaring mistakes. I’m sorry i just can’t. I actually have distatse for the whole Raimi franchise except for Spiderman 2 after seeing Amazing Spiderman. The first film has some moments but as a whole doesn’t feel like spiderman anymore, and hasn’t to me for some time. Actually with each additional film I was less impressed with the characterization of Spiderman, but Amazing Spiderman had it spot.

        • Aegon the Conqueror

YES THIS! Amazing Spiderman ruined the Raimi trilogy for me too! I can never look at Tobey as Spiderman again, Andrew Garfield was just too perfect.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Agreed Obviously! So yeah Juggernaut’s list has me working on one for Spidey. But beleive it or not the original trilogy has a lot of moments, its just thatt he whole films were iffy

          • Juggernaut

I was doing one too. Since I’m working on a few others I’ll hold off and let you tackle the Webbed one. Lol..

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Thanks. Man. Next time we’ll collaborate on one!

          • Juggernaut

            Sounds good.

          • Lazz82

Currently working on Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy and Superman franchise moments..either one of you guys working on that one??

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

            Nope! have at it!

          • Juggernaut

I’m about 90% done a Drk Knight Trilogy list. Nothing on the Superman franchise though.

          • Lazz82

Okey Dokey! Thank you guys for the response…I am almost done with the Superman Article keep eyes out for it tomorrow : )

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

As a Deadpool fanatic I was ecstatic when that scene hit. Not since Nightcrawler’s intro and Logan’s berserker rage in X2 had I been so happy during an X-men film. Then he dispeared and they gave us crap at the end. I mean personally speaking regualr Deadpool vs Wolverine and Sabretooth would’ve been bad ass!!!

      • Juggernaut

I understand that they swap out characters in the franchise and I didn’t really have an issue with the inclusion of Blob and Bolt onto Team X in place of the original memebers Mastadon, Vole and Wildcat. I also didn’t mind the use of Silverfox or the fact that they gave her the abilities that Persuasion from Alpha Flight has in the comics. What I did not like was the nonsensical changes. Blob not starting out fat just didn’t make any sense. Having Gambit included just didn’t make sense. They should have had Deadpool serve as that character. He could have even helped Logan escape like Gambit did at the ned and everything.

Dukes: ” Only one man knows where Stryker’s lab is.”
        Logan: ” Who’s that?”
        Dukes: ” Wade Wilson!”

Wraith and Logan find Wilson, now a masked assassin working for the highest bidder, a perfect scenario to have a bunch of cool cameos lfor the fans ike Black Tom Cassidy or Arcade. They track down Wade, have a fight in a cool locale and viola!
Also, they could have had any kind of experiments being done at Stryker’s facility. I would have loved to have seen a Flash-esqe situation where Quicksilver (who they gave a useless cameo to anyway) doing endless laps or someone like Skin being stretched to his limits. Why did they need to have the powers of other mutants pooled into one mutant at all?!?!?! Cyclops has a cameo?! Really? Why?!
As for Deadpool’s use, they could have had a single line about Wade getting deformed during a mission. Or contracting a virus. And Deadpool, who is now being controlled by Stryker (like Lady Deathstrike in X2) and used as his personal security in his traditional outfit goes up against Logan and Sabretooth before being confronted by Stryker’s ultimate weapon, Omega Red!!! That would have been Rad!

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Yeah it defintiely would have! As for the whole pooling mutant’s powers, it’s a very cool idea if you’re trying to make an ultimate soldier. Ah well.

  • X_p

i disagree with rattners danger room being num 2. as cool as seeing it onscreen was you cant help but see some cheesy effects and even cornier directing. thats right. i said ‘cornier”. that last scene which is fotographed is the worst as it looks like wolverine was added in a hurry cus it looks like he comes out of a door not from behind the head… other than that, cool list.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

That was notcied by me too. All i could think was, “What? Did he cut the head off and then just ride it down as it fell?” Thats silly. However as a fanboy moment, don’t even try to front, you know you lost your mind when you saw that the first time.

      • X_p

i always hit the wrong button. i responded below.

  • X_p

right how did he cut it off AND ride it down? lol. that being said tho… ya youre totally right. the first time I saw that scene i thought we were getting days of future past with the “in the near future” caption on the screen. so yes. I needed a change of pants, also that fastball sequence. but then RATTNER!! haha
other than that its near perfect.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

      Knew it!!

  • Aegon the Conqueror

The stopping missiles moment in First Class easily tops the list IMO. Also while Origins did not have much going for it, the Adimantium transformation was badass and Hugh Jackman was amazing in that sequence.

    • Juggernaut

I did consider having the missle scene on the list but that would have done two things. It would have left no scene from the first film and also made it a Magneto list. I actually made a Magneto top 10 while compiling this list lol. That is how awesome he is. Lol. My issue with the admantium process scene in XO:W was that they had changed so much, not for the better mind you. Bryan Singer layed out the scenario and mood of what that scene should have been so well in the flashback sequences in the first two films. Gavin Hood just disregarded that set up and in my opinion it missed the mark. Not having atleast one scene where Logan is in the vertical tank with the large silver helmet was an untapped resource as well.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

That’s why I watch Hulk Vs Wolverine for that instead lol!!

  • Lazz82

Although I disagree with number 1…PERFECT otherwise! I find it great you took the GOOD parts from Singer’s abominations and brought the good out of them! NICE JOB SIR!

    • Juggernaut

      LOL! Thank you.

  • Romeo garcia

One of the best intros i ever see in a movie was the nightcrawler battle in X2—–I was completely amazing that singer make something like that!!!!..

  • Red Rowz

Thankyou for using the term ‘so far’ instead of ‘ever’!

    • Juggernaut

With Fox releasing The Wolverine next year, X-Men: The Days Of Foture Past the next year and I’m sure a plethora of other sequels, prequels and whatver else they can squeeze out of the franchise it definately needed to be a ‘So FAr’ LOL!

  • hs28

What about Mystique? the girl kicked ass in every scene. In X2 when she impersonates Wolverine and then takes down a bunch of guards in one flip, ending the fight by sliding out backwards while giving them the finger. Genius!!

    • Juggernaut

I love Mystique in the series. When she transformed for he first time in the helicopter, killed Graydon Creed and took Senator Kelly hostage was phenomenal. Her infiltration of Stryker’s underground facility in X2 was another one. Ultimately they didn’t trump any of the scenes above in my opinion.
