#10- ENTER DEADPOOL – (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) 2009
When Ryan Reynolds was cast as the “merc with a mouth” in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” comic fans worldwide were thrilled. Reynolds’ brand of sarcasm was perfect for Wade Wilson. While the script butchered the essence of the mutant assassin, Reynolds’ look, delivery and physicality as Deadpool’s witty alter-ego were spot on during the beginning of the film.
#9- MAGNETO TURNS THE TABLES – (X-MEN) 2000
Let’s face it, as much as I liked the first film and it was groundbreaking for comic book movies, it wasn’t all that spectacular. Like most first installments, “X-Men” was mostly set-up. However, a stellar cast and fan fervor really elevated the movie. Despite its mediocre story and lack of “WOW” moments director Bryan Singer was able to capture the spirit and texture of the characters Magneto, played by Ian McKellan, displayed the master of magnetism’s effortless power and underlying humanity perfectly in this scene.
#8- INTRODUCING, THE “REAL” ICEMAN – (X-MEN: THE LAST STAND) 2006
As much as I enjoyed Shawn Ashmore as Bobby Drake I longed for the day when he’d graduate from nebbish student to the X-Man we all knew and loved. Say what you will about Brett Ratner but he finally iced up Bobby to take down his arch nemesis Pyro in “X-Men: The Last Stand”. Hopefully a sequel to the first three films will have his signature ice bridges in full swing!
#7- BEAST’S TRANSFORMATION – (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) 2011
Although I enjoyed Kelsey Grammar’s portrayal of Henry McCoy in “X-Men: The Last Stand” more and even liked Steve Bacic’s small cameo in “X2″ which were both a lot closer to the comic iteration, I have to admit that the realization of McCoy attempting to rid himself of his mutant gene with a self-engineered serum in “X-Men: First Class” was outstandingly done. Unfortunately the effects for Beast’s furry, catlike looks did not hit the mark. Hopefully the next time we see McCoy he’ll be transformed even further and better done.
#6- COLOSSUS’ CAMEO – (X2) 2003
Only five seconds long, this may be my favorite moment in the entire X-Men franchise! When that door opened with Peter transforming into his organic steel form and tossing Stryker’s soldiers through the wall in “X2″ I was ecstatic! I was elated to hear that he would have a much larger role in the next installment. Sadly, Ratner’s follow up, “X-Men: The Last Stand” didn’t leave much for Colossus to do.
