Eighties Goodness

If you grew up watching cartoons during the eighties then you’ve no doubt noticed how some of that period’s most beloved shows are now being turned into Hollywood blockbusters. What with the sequel to the Transformers movie and GI Joe coming to theaters soon, and Thundercats and Voltron just looming over the horizon, those of us who’re wetting our pants in anticipation will have more than enough to aid in our reversion to childhood. So then how about those other shows that were on during that same timeframe? You know, all the derivative copycat cartoons that jumped on the bandwagon of existing for the sole purpose of selling toys?

Not ringing any bells? Maybe this list will jog your memory then…

to me, its funny that american animation companies hired japanese animation studios to make them killer intros, just so kids think it will be some awesome series

Just check that freaking awesome intro for silver hawks and thunder cats, you might think the show is incredibly bad ass for its action sequences.

I agree in the ’86 Transfomers movie – I was traumatized about a half hour in when Optimus died (but thrilled when Peter Cullen was invited back for the 2007 movie) – Rodimus leading the autobots – would be a phenomenal movie!

Oh hell yeah! The Herculoids with the two blobs the little one and the big one. I used to play with silly putty and pretend that they were the blobs from the Herculoids. Oh yeah! And what about that big dragon! Aw man! Don’t get me started! Btw, does anybody remember the best toy back in the 80′s. My favorite, ’255 Computer Command’ Look it up! It was a remote control car that used no remote control. You program it from underneath the hood of the car. Oh I wish I stil had it. Oh yeah, Voltron rules.

  • CGI Thundercats…noooOOH!

LIGHTENING STRIKE!! Did Jace and the Wheeled Warriors not make your list b/c it SHOULD be made into a Movie? Thats the best into and ‘outro’ of any show eva
lol We called a big headed kid Saw-Boss straight thru high school.

It’d make The Road Warrior look like Fast and Furious and Fast and Furious look like Speed Racer.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

Lmao. Yeah Jace and the Wheeled Warriors was great. But really you want live action Thundercats? Even if someone like Weta did the prosthetics, it’d look cheesey. Seriously. I want it to look like the concept art I saw a week ago. More catlike, instead of just having humanoids with cat eyes and abilities.

    • Marko Vidovich

“Jayce”and the Wheeled Warriors – I just commented forgot about the full title. Best intro ever!
