Still waiting for that “Top Gun” sequel? Well you’re probably going to have to keep waiting, because it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon. In the meantime, you can always watch the original “Top Gun” again. And I don’t mean on DVD or Blu-ray, or VHS for you old farts out there. I mean in theaters. In 3D.
Yup. Paramount is re-releasing “Top Gun” in 3D back into theaters. But there’s a catch — it’ll only be showing in select IMAX 3D theaters. Sorry, kids. For those who want to hunt down Maverick and Goose’s radical ’80s adventures, “Top Gun’s” 3D run will begin this February 8th (and run to until the 13th) before flying to Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on February 19, 2013.
“Top Gun”, in case you’ve never seen it, stars Tom Cruise as young hotshot Navy pilot Maverick who, along with his co-pilot Goose (Anthony Edwards), are sent to an elite US Flying school for advanced fighter pilots, where they compete against the very best. And oh yeah, hit on the very hot pilot instructor played by a very hot Kelly McGillis. He also has to battle a totally hunky Val Kilmer. (This was, er, back in 1986.)
The film was directed by the late Tony Scott, and was a huge hit for Cruise in ’86.
